first off, please dont refer me to google Smile ive tried and its about as much help as a chocolate fireblanket Evil or Very Mad

my pc is really slow lately, granted its a PII 450, but it wasnt always this bad, first annoying thing is my homepage been set to https://www.search-space.com and i cant change it to anything else, even set it manually in the registry and its gone back to this

gator is hiding somewhere here, but i cant find that either, and when im browsing web pages every fifth link or something redirects me to a porn page, which in turn doesnt let you leave, and tries to get you to download something

any advice for either of these problems, specifically getting rid of any spyware (programs that do it all for you for example, and work!) and generally speeding up this pc without an upgrade or a format

many thanks

it's an old machine so i'm guessing there's been a big build up of shite over the years.
I'd suggest re-installing windows, and i'd suggest 98 and it's prob the most efficient.
then get a firewall, and anti spyware software on there.

either that or what robby said (i've never used it but am giving it a go now for the hell of it) along will adaware and spybot and get a firewall on there-blocking all the ports you don't need.

remove all the programs you don't need that run on startup
winzip, quicktime, realplayer, autoupdate (windows and others), etc...
these take up valuable memory.

You'd get the best results by installing a fresh copy of windows, but if you don't want to go that far then this, this, this and this are your friends. And use add & remove programs in control panel to get rid of anything you're not using.

Ok, I won't refer you to google, but can I show you this....
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=21561 Wink or more specifically https://www.pchell.com/support/searchspace.shtml
It helped me get rid of the stoopid search-space.com search problem at least. Smile
