Ncb help

Hi all im looking to get a bike soon and havent had a bike insured in my own name in nearly 3 years, now i have 2 years ncb, i was until january 2010 insured as a named rider on my wifes bike insurance but obviously wouldnt have used my ncb for this, also i cant find my details for my bike insurance so would i be able to phone the previous insurance company and ask them to send a confirmation i had 2 years ncb even though i have had nothing to do with them for 3 years? I am hoping that because i was insured on my wifes insurance that my ncb will still be active, i have the paperwork to show that i was insured till january 2010 but nothing of my own, help please as there is a massive difference in price.

sorry to dissapoint you with bad news, but most Insurance companies consider ncb to expire after 2 years.

So if it has been 3 years since you earned those ncb, they are unfortunately void.

yeh i gathered it would be but thought someone might know different, its not soo bad now just managed to get a quote for 500 a year for a cbr900rr with only 5 years licenece so not as bad as the 1200 i found earlier

If you phone around alot you might get a company that will to take it into consideration, but it won't be 'NCB' if it's 3 years old. The only time you'll get this happen though, is if the broker you're on the phone to have a word with their underwriter. Obviously getting them to do it is the challenge (rather than either saying no or maybe putting you on hold for a minute, chatting with their mates, and put you back on to say the underwriter said no). And even if they do, the underwriters all ran the same, just like the cartel's they are, so you're unlikely to get any joy even then.
