hi,

i am a faily new to bikes, only been riding for a year now and i'm looking to get a 125cc bike soon.
at the moment i'm looking for a gilera sc 125 but i notice there is a lack of information on the internet about these bikes, i know that they are pretty quick but i have yet to find how reliable they are, can anyone tell me? or advise a differant bike? Confused

PS i know they are 2 strokes and not as reliable as 4 stroke but i dont want a slugish 4 stroke bike Smile

yeah the engine is yamaha, but it still being a 2 stroke and all the other parts are different to yamaha components make me think it might be a bit unreliable.

and i done my cbt i will be doing my A1 in the summer Smile i'm confident about it though Very Happy

If you don't want a 'sluggish' four stroke, why would you want a 'strangled' two stroke?
I mean, if your riding it on a CBT cert & L Plates it SHOULDN'T make any difference......
If you want a de restricted one... then you need a full licence.... or if you DGAS about riding legal, why pillock about on a 125, why not go the whole hog and get an R1 and ride that.... 'other than in accordance with your licence'..... and not actually break as many laws obtaining insurance by deception etc......
Next, why A1?
That is the 'scooter Licence'. Same test but only qualifies you to ride..... err.... 14.5bhp 125's.... just without L plates?
You STILL couldn't ride a full power sports 2T on it....
And if you are taking a test this summer..... like like, Hmmm in the next 90 days! What the heck does it matter WHAT 125 you get or HOW reliable is is....... you shouldn't have it long enough for the damn thing to go wrong!
Or am I missing something here?!?!?

okay, well first of all better acceleration and from what i have read a standard gilera sc will hit 80 with out much trouble and some 4 strokes struggle to hit 70.

secondly doesn't the A1 upgrade after 2 years to a full bikers license, or i might be getting confused with the A2.

i want to ride a 125 for 2 years then move up the power scale to the R1 which is the dream bike at the moment Very Happy
happy?

cheers mate, can i ask, what does the A2 let you ride up to? and does it upgrade after 2 years?

just to confirm, i'm getting a little confused in which license allows you to do what Smile

Anything upto 33bhp and under a specific power:weight ratio. So thats pretty much anything except the derestricted 125 race replicas which make in the region of 25+bhp and weigh next to nothing.

After 2 years you graduate to a full power (ie. everything from an ER5 to a Diavel or V-Max).

How old are you? If you are over or even near 21 it might be worth doing Direct Access Wink

i'm only a teenager at 16, but i dont ride like a twat, like most teens do, since i already have had my fair share of crashes on a 125 dirt bike Neutral and i realised how dangerous it can be.

and i would love to do direct license but i think the power step is too big and i need more experience on the road first Smile
