So i had a nice long run on the TT today, running very well.

Got home and checked over the tyres and the like, oh no... nail in the rear tyre.

tyres have about 1k miles worth left in them, is it just a case of taking it to get it plugged up? or would it just be worth changing the tyres? won't be doing many miles on it this month anyway, since i'm working constantly... so either way it won't matter too much.

Cheers

Should plug fine.

Or I've totally convinced myself those figure of eight stab through bungs constitute a permanant repair, regardless of what it says on the packet about not exceeding 50mph. I have used many of them for protracted periods and at high speeds.

Cool.

How much should it set me back to get it plugged? do i need to take the wheel off for it?

I think i'll buy a DIY plug kit at some point...

Not sure to be honest. I've never had a professionally fitted plug put in. The debate would be if it's worth the money for a tyre with a short lifespan left. They take the tyre off and fit a "mushroom" shaped bung from the inside.

The bungs I use are from Heine Gericke. They come in a kit with little bottles of air but if you were doing it at home, you can save those for a roadside repair. They have 6 bungs in a kit as I recall but only enough air for one tyre to limp to a filling station.

If you're fitting a bung yourself, the trick is to file the hole out with the tool supplied until it slides in and out really easily and don't stint on the glue stuff. If you don't, the bung will snap as you try to fit it.

Fair enough Thumbs Up

I'll take it to the bike shop up the road from me and get them to do it, and get the DIY kit just in case.

Thumbs Up
