I'd be up for it but where in France exactly? What do we need to take? Is it £250 in total then? Are the routes planned? Accommodation? Who are the others? Are you definately going?

Provisional yes...

Probably best to give him a ring I'd reckon.

I'd go, but that'd finish up my time off for this year I think Laughing

Some quotes from another site. Worth a read, especially the bits about accomodation and duration of trip. Very Happy

Quote:
A couple of years back we went Portsmouth-St. Malo entering France at about noon. We rode about 70miles at a time (me on zx7r, mate on rsv1000) and took a break of about 15mins each time for a drink of water and a stretch. By about 8pm we were in the North of the Pyrenees looking for a hotel in Perpignan. (GOOD TIP - FIND OUT WHERE ALL THE "FORMULE 1" HOTELS ARE - A BIT LIKE McDonalds but in hotel form ie. cheap, clean and cheerful and everywhere).

Anyways, next day we were in Barcelona by early afternoon and on the beach soon after.

The following days involved riding all over the Pyrenees, through Andorra and into Northern Spain heading for Santander and a return ferry.

In retrospect, if we'd taken 10days to do the trip it would have been fine. 7 days meant we had little time to chill out or pick out some good roads to attack a few times.

The return ferry from Santander was totally amazing. Big, comfy, relaxed, food, beer, lovely sunny views of the sea in all directions. Just what we needed.

It very much depends on how you like to ride. Either way, if you go to/from SAntander or Bilbao you still have a fair distance to travel to get to the Pyrenees but it's much less so than going through France. Nice to experience both but I'll be making a more careful decision next time. I really can't stress how important rest days are. There's nothing worst than riding the best roads in the world when you can't fully concentrate on enjoying it and it turns into more of an endurance race.

Try what we did and you won't be dissappointed. The other plus is that you never feel like you're going back, only forward to your next destination.

The crew and I have decided to take a week in France in May. Planning to go over at Calais and head down to a cottage in Dijon for a week. From there we are planning rides out to the south of France staying over somewhere in Avignon, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland if the weather is right. Should be a blast... my ZX7, 2 ZX9's, GSXR750, XJR1300 and a GPZ900 !!!

Ferry is £85 return and the cottage is £450 for the week... £75 a head, so giving us lot's of spare cash for fuel to ride as much as we can !

We used the following sites to search for a cottage... some are really good deals especially if you don't mind room sharing or sleeping on a sofabed. Let's face it.... £50-70 a head for a weeks accomodation in France is NOTHING ! Best thing is, you talk direct to the cottage owner and there are lots of English owners. The
