Anyone renewed licence at the post office?

Ive realised my licence has expired and the photo needs replaced! Looked online and it mentions a renewal form that I don't have and it references the D1 form. Ive got two of those lying round that are different and I'll have to get a new one because I don't know which is current!

Anyway the website says I can renew it at the post office for £4.50 plus the twenty quid fee and theyll do the photo and everything. It says to take the reminder form but says it 'may' be possible without.

Has anyone tried this?

Yup, piece of cake. Look at the camera, sign the pad thing, hand over cash, job done. I filled out the form there and then and gave them my old licence, new one came back in less than a week.

Their fee is about what you pay for photos and postage anyway so it doesnt cost any more to do.

Yes I did it this way. You get a receipt and all and they send your application and photo securely and electronically. And you know the photo will be accepted as it's done within spec right there.

One thing they fail to highlight is that you may be able to do it online. I did mine last week (after I also realised it had expired). If you have applied for a passport in the last 5 years they will take the photo and signature off of that for your licence; no need to stand with old people!

Oh, and it is only your photo that has expired, not your entitlement to drive/ride.

Which is the expiry date on your license? 4b I'm guessing as 4a has long gone.

edit just found a list on the back. Shows how often I look at my license.

Must admit mine expired 'quite' a while ago. Glad to get it sorted, I was waiting until I move into my new house so it dodnt have to go away for the photo and then again in a few months when I move. Two birds with one stone now though, so all is good!
