I did a search for this, and there was a similar thread from july 2009, so I hope it's not too soon to do another, if it is, forgive me Mr. Green

So, basically, what's the most embarrassing thing that's happened to you on a bike?

I'll start, it's only fair, and I have an experience I found hard to live down for a hell of a long time.

I used to work at a factory, and we'd park our bikes under the balcony right outside the workers entrance, I'd have mine pointed outwards, the entire shift lines up to clock out at 5 minutes to the bell, and I would go out and start my bike, always be the first to clock out, jump on the bike and roar off into the sunset being awesome (in my head anyway).

The bike was an old Z1R, big, heavy and kick-start only (think it had an electric start that never worked). So this one evening, I go out as usual, in leather jacket but only works overall trousers, kick-start it, but my foot slipped, the kick-start went up my trouser leg, I lost my balance and the bike went down on it's right, with my leg under it. In front of every single person I have to work with. Embarassed I couldn't lift it off me, needed a couple of others to lift the bike while I extracted myself from the kick-start.

The piss-taking I got from that was both endless and justified Very Happy

Dropped the bike on the drive, didn't let go, got pulled down with it and did a roly poly over the bike ending with my head butting the ground (with my helmet on).

Quickly got up and checked no one saw me Laughing

Did you lose your "h" key? Laughing

Nearly went clean into the back of a f' off wagon once at a set of lights on my old bike. Had to do a cool side skid since it was that close if the bike wasn't sideways it would have collided... felt like a tool but was proud of my reactions all the same as I was a [L]earner back then. Though if I was actually paying attention to start with I wouldn't have nearly wrecked my bike.

rode my little GT550 up to The Bulldog from Southampton with my rather large 'bouncer bird' mate on the back along with all our camping gear etc etc etc. bike was 'under some strain' but is a GT so carted us to the Bash fine. On pulling up to the gates to show our tickets the combination of an overloaded bike plus teeny rider with ickle girl legs led to an awful lot of wobbling at the lower speed. The gate was clear so i started to pull away a bit to kill the wobble (with the intention of going through the gate & stopping the other side to come back on foot with the tickets). Better than wobbling about and dropping the bike.

At this point a REALLY big gate-bod stepped out from behind the pillar into the gateway and the path of the bike. . . . .took in the situation. . . .and jumped out the way sharpish.

He came half an inch from having a big tyre track right up his front. I came half an inch from being hunted down and beaten to death by the angels. my mate came half an inch from being an accessory to murder. Laughing

needless to say after i managed to park the bike i jumped off and gave him an enthusiastic apology. he looked that scared when he saw us coming towards him i had to play the girlie card and made sure i'd taken my lid off, fluffed my hair up and unzipped my jacket a bit before talking to him. Mr. Green

Had a bit of an embarrassment earlier. Parked in the staff car park (had to sneak through the barriers behind a member of staff) as one of the college ones was closed due to a pikey funeral Rolling Eyes so cam to kicking out time, a lot of people standing around the barrier area smoking. I sat there for about 20 seconds waiting for the thing to go up, gave up and decided to go up the kerb and across the path, as soon as my front wheel is up the kerb up goes the barrier Laughing

Ok not exactly embarrassing but had people laughing at me, although I was laughing too so it was with me... right?

Only one i can think of is when i tried to start my gas gas on the stand with my left leg, stood off the bike. I kicked it with enough oomph to lift it off the stand that kindly flicked up resulting in the bike toppling onto the fence.

I'm sure I posted this before but CBA to find it

Not long got the CG125 and started to commute to work on it

Got flagged by my boss who was talking to a bunch of other guys that work on the estate, so I pulled over I popped the sidestand down and pulled the key from the ignition (still had gloves on) and proceded to drop the only key I had down a drain in front of everyone
That was pretty embarrasing and not the impression I had wanted to make

unbelievably- I had popped a plastic 35mm film cannister (housing 2 sets of foam earplugs) onto the keyring....which saved the day as it made for easy retrieval and kept the key boyant on the filthy scum water

The CG definately didnt require earplug use but for some odd reason I had left the cannister on there
Would have been a long push home if I hadn't

Regards
Rob

Had only Passed my test for a few weeks and decided i needed a disc lock for my bike.

Put the lock on one day when i was in a supermarket car park and went in.

came out, got straight on to my bike, started it up and off i went, (well i thought so), had left the disc lock on Embarassed , travelled 5 inchs and suddenly stopped, couldn't put my foot down quick enough and dropped the bike whilst head butting the car next to me....

Quickly picked it up undone the lock and buggered off A.S.A.P

I done that on the old 125.

Also skidded doing a slow turn by stupidly pulling the front brake in on mossy ground on the 125.

When I was a wee nipper we used to go over to Europe for the motocross. One of the riders used to take a moped with him, useful for getting into the nearest town, whizzing around the paddock, and giving to young boys to keep them out of the way for an afternoon...

While I was keeping out of the way I decided to see what the track was like to ride. It seems that a little old knackered moped doesn't quite have the power to make it up some of the jumps... I was quite red faced when I pushed it back to the van and had to explain I'd jammed the exhaust up with mud.

Dropped a workmate's brand new Bandit - and I mean fresh out of the showroom new - in the work car park. Put it back to mint of course, but the ribbings are never going to end. Embarassed

Slightly cheered up by him dropping it twice since, that he'll admit to. Thumbs Up

First one that comes to mind (of many!) involves the wrong shoes......

We're back in the early 80s and ankle high trainers (not Converse style basketball boots) are the latest fashion; it's the height of Summer and I'm in full Jack Shitt gear (Simpson with black visor, diagonal zip leather jacket, black jeans with pinstripes and white bootees) and I'm pulling up at a set of lights in the West End, on the GSX1100.

As I glide to a stop, I go to put my left foot down, but my shoe lace is caught round the gear lever; cue frantic flapping of foot and horrible sinking feeling, cos I'm going down!

After a what seemed like an age, I'm now pinned under the bike and looking up at the driver of the artic next to me, who is crying with laughter.

Fair play to him, he did climb down from his cab and help me, but the bastard never stopped laughing Evil or Very Mad Laughing

Coming soon, the story of the chauffeur and the grapefruit............

I ran out of fuel on my CBR, and had to push the bike a mile to a petrol station.

Also had the regulator on that die, leaving the battery empty. Worst of all, it was on a Harley Davidson showroom car park. On a Summer Sunday lunch time.

Car park was FULL of harleys and their typical riders. All having a very good giggle, at me push starting my jap sports bike up and down the car park Sad

After I'd visited a bunch of friends at a house they were sharing while at uni, I was backing the GT down the path while they were all waving me off. As soon as the rear wheel dropped on to the road, the side stand hit the pavement and threw me (and the bike) on the deck. Much laughter from my friends, much cursing from me!

The ONLY time i've forgotten to raise my stand was on the way to my mod 2 test, apart from that all i've ever really done is: forget my cable lock was on multiple times until i come to a strangely abrupt stop while pulling away (usually while bantering to a friend) and then theres the twice that i've stalled a bike. Neither of which being while pulling away, they were both while i was sat talking to someone in 1st with the clutch pulled in for that long that i forgot about it, went to let go and the bike stalled. Nothing major to report really.

oh oh and there was the time that after actually remembering to remove my lock, i draped it over the pillion seat as i was getting suited up.... I forgot about this and rode off (once again, talking to a mate for too long) and it amazingly didn't fall off until about 5 minutes away, when i SWORE i felt something slide past my lower back but "meh, must be going mental" this was at around 6pm. I realised that my lock was missing at 4am and went back to where I felt it slide (by that time i'd worked out what it was and that i wasn't mad) and to my MASSIVE surprise, IT WAS STILL LYING IN THE ROAD! i was chuffed.

Does a pillion story count?
Back in the eighties I foolishly accepted a lift home from an old mate.
I should have known better as he was the local wheelie king.
You can guess what's coming....
We stopped at a busy T junction (Sat night centre of Edinburgh)
Needless to say I ended up on my backside in the middle of the road just as the Kings Theatre was tipping out! I can still see the passengers of the 2 double deckers laughing at me! 8o)

The most embarassing moment was when I was on my RS 125, waiting at the lights. Then slowly this car on my left creeped forward, and a black guy said how are you doing baby. I had slightly long hair back then, but anyway, I turned around and said sorry. He sort of jumped and said sorry it was your hair.

I had a quick go on my mates Vespa.....had to stop at a zebra crossing for a big group of people to cross. Stopped the shitbox and put my feet on the ground. I then got that horrible sick feeling you get when things are moving and you can't work out what......

.....my feet weren't on the road, they were on the running boards so I slowly and elegantly fell off the shitbox sideways in front of a highly entertained audience. Feet were still on the running board as I lay horizontal in the road

I had the GSX die on me in the middle of a roundabout at rush hour. That was rather embarassing...
