Went out for a blast on the RVF today and when i open it up to about 3/4 of the rev counter it pops like mad. I am thinking that the carbs could be out of balance but my dad also says it could be the ignition missing. Any ideas of what it could be and how much to fix will be great. I have the gages and everything to balance the carbs so thats a job for me, it only happens when i am accelerating hard. Any help will be great.
Thanks
Wez

Also check that the vaccum hose for fuel tap is properly connected and not blocked or kinked or anything.

If not, clean and balance the carbs.

Hi

Carb balancing will have the greatest effect at idle, so it probably isn't that.

If it is occuring on large throttle openings it tends to suggest one of the main jets is blocked.

All the best

Keith

Are you sure it hasn't still got he restrictor in the rev counter.

If it has make sure the metal strip is bent back and the wire hasn't been cut or it will do what it is doing.

If it pops etc in the first three gears it's definitely not the jap speed restricter that's doing it, you might want to check the plug leads are all seated correctly.

It will if the wire has been cut insted of the tab bent out of the way.

If the wire has been cut it'd misfire chronically above 5000rpm, which is 1/3 of the tacho not 3/4. Unless Wez goes around cutting random wires for the fun of it I doubt it's been cut.

Tins RVF used to be good for at least 120mph from my experience which would suggest it wasn't restricted.
Another possible problem could be with the fuel tap. My NC30 had fueling problems when the vacuum hose was attached to the wrong part of the tap after a service, which in turn made the internal diaphragm leak. When the bike was running at high speed for too long it would lose power and the revs would drop sometimes casuing a complete stall. Also when setting off it would sometimes cause backfires (Dem and Zak may remember these problems coming back from BdB 2002).
