Dunno about your insurance, but mine says "All modifactions must be disclosed to the Insurer at inception. Failure to do so may result in the policy being null and void. "

I hear it depends on the insurance company. Road legal cans are not considered a modification, they are a "replacement". Wink

My insurance company doesn't specify that the policy is void but it does say that anything above what is considered minor modification must be declared.

If it's a road legal can why not just declare it to them so that you really are 100% legal? Confused

Because you don't need to declare it to them. Its the same as if you bought a standard can from a breakers! its a replacement.

And Luke, its different from every insurance company, so it depends on YOUR insurance company.

No, it's a modifaction. Replacing something is where you get something identical to the original, and replace the old one with it. Modifaction is where you get something different to the original and replace the original with it.

I think Ste's right to be fair. A non OE part is not original so should be declared if you want to be safe Very Happy

Have you rung your insurance company and asked? Question

I'd love to have one of those removable baffle exhausts where you can change between road legal and race in five minutes Very Happy I'd phone them up every weekend "Hi yea just taking the baffles out" then later on the same day, "Hi just putting them back in" Laughing

Wonder how long 'til they get annoyed Wink

Mark... you could just have said originally that you'd checked with your insurance and they were happy with it. Razz

It'd probably take quite a while. Especially with a £10-20 adminstartive charge for each time. Laughing

I would expect so. Most charge an admin fee for everything small so that they can make more money off you. And they can just say they won't insure you will the baffle out as it isn't road legal. Confused

Just my Penny Coin Penny Coin, and I'm talking technically not as it would happen... as we've seen it's fairly rare that people actually get done for not having restrictors either.

Does a race can not mean the bike is 'not fit for road use' as far as the authoorities are concerned? If this is the case, an insurance company could presumably decide that their insurance doesn't cover a bike when it's in such a state on the road, especially not declared on the insurance.

They would have to show that it contributed to the accident, and it is likely to be thrown out of court if they tried it most of the time. Suspect they might at best / worst manage to reduce the pay out. Added to which they would certainly have to pay out the third party claim.

The only real time they could get nasty really is a theft claim, and if they refused to pay out on that then a small amount of publicity could loose them a lot of business.

All the best

Keith

Don't consider any advanced training until you have a full licence. 95% of what you learn to pass the learner test will be undone and it will only serve to confuse, and although you can in theory do advanced training on a 50, it somewhat defeats the object when you are limited to 30 MPH.

Yes the bday is the 16th. I will be 24 I have been riding since I was like 7 and have had my full licence four years!!

I think ill cope!! Razz hhehe
