Well today, James and I popped out to our local bike shop to buy a cover for his rather moist Gixxer....

Whilst there, James had an oggle at the clothing department (he will own a set of leathers that fit one day!) and noticed a rather tempting offer....

An RSR Shark Foggy replica, in my size, for £149 instead of £380 odd. I am due for a new helmet soon.
Does anyone have any experience with this lid, and should I buy it!?

Please bear in mind I am an impoverished student.

And how many miles have you done in your current lid? You buy more lids than I buy bikes!

Personally if it was me I would not buy it unless I needed a new lid.

Added to which that £150 would make a big hole in your insurance bill.

All the best

Keith

Is your current lid damaged?

Personally I wait until a lid gets damaged, then wait a bit more, then after a while get some money and eventually replace.
I'm not suggesting this is a good course of action.

Sounds like a good price, I've got an Arai head though. I found the Foggy rep seemed really short when I tried it on, may sound strange but I felt like my chin was sticking too far out. The helmet didn't seem to come down over my chin enough (no I'm not Bruce Forsythe) and I didn't feel happy that my jaw would be safe in a crash. May be different for you though, have you tried it on?

They recommend about 5 years for the life of a well looked after lid don't they? Suppose you are the best one to decide if you really need it though. I can't talk, I now have four helmets, two Kevin Schwantz reps, a black NR and a Roberts GP rep, all Arai of course because I'm a poseur!

Didn't you just get a new one about 8 months back? I seem to remember you showing it off at the wheel. Razz

The Foggy rep is sweet. I tried one on last year, really comfy.

Warning: Dusty has a large split in the shell of his Roof Daytona.
He is not a reliable gauge of lid effectiveness.

This was a public service announcement by the safety party . Smile

I don't claim to be, if I had the money I'd probably replace my lid to be honest.

But why replace something that's not broken? For appearances sake? Or just for a change? Confused

I will vote against. There's no need; *you* however do need a new one. Mind you you are selling the R6 so meh. Smile

That was Scott I think - he bought the same helmet and I accused him of copying.... Confused
Or are you thinking of the leathers me dear?

I had this helmet after I crashed the NSR about 18months ago (it's only my second - the first got utterly destroyed). Done quite a lot of miles in it and its starting to feel a little loose.
The Shark fits - Arais are way too long! They come over my eyebrows even with the extra padding in them!

James keeps picking on me saying I need a colourful helmet because everything else is black I'm going to get run over. Nice boy Very Happy

Hmmmmm I'll probably go with Keith though, and pick up the phone to insurance companies first, then check the damage.
