I tend to use my magnetic tank bag if I need to carry a chain... It alters the balance point and/or centre of gravity less than putting it in a top box. Thumbs Up

Put it in a bag and use a bungee across the pillion seat. Thumbs Up

Edit: I put bungee, but meant a cargo net. Embarassed

Definitely bag and cargo net. So cheap and so easily removed. Wouldn't think it would affect the handling much either

Here is a cheap cargo net:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Silverline-Bungees-Cargo-Net-300-x-300mm-/230599106725?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item35b0c720a5

All you would need is a small rucksack or a large bum bag to put the chain /padlock into. Thumbs Up
