Can anyone suggest a good quality multimeter for me?

I used my dad's cheap one today to test my battery voltage after the bike struggled to start this morning and, being as my battery is at least 3 years old, I replaced it.

The new battery was reading 14.53 volts on idle, followed by 16.8 volts @ 5000 rpm, this made me think that the battery was knackered and that the regulator/rectifier was the cause. I borrowed another multimeter and found that my dads one was way out as the borrowed multimeter showed 12.68 volts at idle and 13.5 volts @ 5500 rpm.

So I figured I'd better buy myself a decent quality multimeter so I get the right readings. To think I was about to buy a new reg/rec, I've saved a few £££'s

Cheers, guys....

Probably wwwaaaayyyy over the top but it has to be Fluke all the way.

On a budget I'd go for a maplin one. This looks OK for the money. https://www.maplin.co.uk/automotive-digital-multimeter-with-inductive-pickup-222059

Have a look for local calibration services on Yell. On average I pay between £15 and £20 to get a meter certified.

i've been using my cheap (sub 20 quid) gunson one for a few years & its pretty decent.
i only bought it, as i just couldnt justify splashing out on a fluke or similar, as i only use it as a basic muti-meter. (& only occasionaly using the other functions)
check out CPC, they have a few good basic meters at half decent prices. (& also sell some flukes etc)
the TENMA have had some decent reviews,
cheers,
GAZ

Price is a little high. There is a place on the 'net, surplustest.co.uk,and they sell them for about £26 but without case or leads. Offer them £30 then £35.

Unless you plan to do loads of electrical work the Maplin meters are just fine.

Don't forget you need to buy leads!

Take a look at Amprobe. Rumoured to be manufactured by fluke. Something like the AM220 is around £30.
