Hi,

The two saubers Perez and Kobyashi , were disqualified from todays race , can anyone confirm that they are classified for the race or not?

Cheers

Classified for the race? do you mean classified IN the race?
Yes they are classed as disqualified. The classification is done subject to successfully passing post race checks such as weight limit etc.
They had excessive curvature on the rear wing. This could give an additional boost from the DRS along with improved rear downforce. It's likely that the infringement was very very minor. The teams tend to use the technical limits as a specification to aim for, so it's easy to end up 1/10th of a mil over.
Sauber will be pissed off, but it's only their fault. They showed good speed and are clearly very easy on their tires so i think they can expect more points finishes this season, so it's not all bad.

I had a bet on Perez, Not To Be Classified , and assumed that because he was DQ`ed he is not a classified finisher therefore my bet should have won.

As far as I know from my knowledge, the problem with the rear wing gave no performance advantage as it was not part of the working area of the wing as it was on the upper surface of the wing.

As for it being wing curvature, there is no specific information yet as far as I know detailing that as the issue, it's the most likely but the info isn't concrete.

However, the rule they have most likely broken is the fact that the uppermost portion (the part that opens due to the DRS), the chord of the segment must be smaller than the chord of the lower segment in the same lateral place.

If this is the case I can't see any performance advantage at all, as if the curvature isn't less than the lowermost portion then it's going to let less air pass through thus hindering performance, however we shall see.

It is odd that it got cleared in parc fermé the day before but was found to be in breach today and that's the reason why Sauber are appealing, as far as we know they'll most likely appeal about how it is measured, as if it's done simply i.e. with a ruler there is a possible margin of error that could cause them to not be DQd after all.

HTH! Thumbs Up!

How? Surely a wing with move curve would affect drag more and therefore reduce the affect of DRS

The rear wing elements are now covered by a minimum radius rule, much like the bodywork.
That part I think is 100mm minimum radius on any curved surface. The curve in total was less than 100mm.

REGS:

Quote:

Article 3.10.1: "Any bodywork more than 150mm behind the rear wheel centre line which is between 150mm and 730mm above the reference plane, and between 75mm and 355mm from the car centre line, must lie in an area when viewed from the side of the car that is situated between 150mm and 350mm behind the rear wheel centre line and between 300mm and 400mm above the reference plane. When viewed from the side of the car no longitudinal cross section may have more than one section in this area.

"Furthermore, no part of this section in contact with the external air stream may have a local concave radius of curvature smaller than 100mm.

"Once this section is defined, 'gurney' type trim tabs may be fitted to the trailing edge. When measured in any longitudinal cross section no dimension of any such trim tab may exceed 20mm."

3.10.2: "Other than the bodywork defined in Article 3.10.9, any bodywork behind a point lying 50mm forward of the rear wheel centre line which is more than 730mm above the reference plane, and less than 355mm from the car centre line, must lie in an area when viewed from the side of the car that is situated between the rear wheel centre line and a point 350mm behind it."

Like that. The 15 degrees of tilt they can have in the rear wing ideally needs to make as much difference as possible between the up and down position. Having a tighter radius will give more downforce in the down position whilst having the same effect as everybody elses in the up position.
