Now I started with a budget of 3k but have decided to throw some Pound Coin at my Saab for a Maptun stage 3 upgrade.

I have had to rethink my strategy as I was considering the blackbird/zx12r range of bikes.
I have been to view a ace and must admit it was lovely (for me). Huge great tank of a machine that took off like a whippet with it's bum full of dynamite. Good handling and a very low mileage example, fitted with a full akky system and braided hoses all round.
Very clean bike and the chances are I'm gonna buy it regardless Shifty

May I have your opinions on the above bike please, preferably owners, past and present too, with possible / potential problems they suffer from? Thumbs Up

Basically a FZR1000 Exup in a multicoloured frock. Keep an eye on the exhaust headers because they'll be made of patented Yamaha insta-rust(TM) steel. If you need any parts for the EXUP valve they will be eye wateringly expensive. For my FZR400RR I bought two exup valve bushes, two collars and an exup valve gasket and it came to £92!!!

I asked if that was specific to the FZR400 and the guy in the shop told me everything associated with all EXUP valves costs a lot.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Gone, all gone. Removed to make room for the full akraprovic system as far as I'm aware.

Thunderace engines were not bored correctly so a small amount of oil tends to leak past rings. The worst ones can use quite a lot though.. Shocked

It was the same problem with the 850 TDM's IIRC the barrels turn oval with time. It is not a case of if but when they start burning oil. Laughing

It's little brother, the Thundercat, uses not a drop (well, as little as is practicably possible). I think it's an 'Ace thing, along with a rather large petrol thirst.

Yup, it was something stupid like that, ask him yourself.

Obviously that Thunderace was one of the more extreme oil burners, but they pretty much all burn.

FJ1200's tend to burn a bit when they get up to 90k Wink

I don't own a single bike for it's fuel economy, never have done. I own them because I like them and they give me grin factors Laughing

Best I get a regular supply of oil then as...........

Ahem.....

Very Happy

I had an Ace and it burnt very little oil. I remember a rideout with Tatters and he was constantly filling his and could not believe mine was fine!

I really enjoyed the Ace when I had it, pretty quick, a bit on the lardy side but good brakes and I never had a problem with it.
