The teeth on it are suitable for softwoods, but will jump abit on seasoned timber, so i prefer to put on one of these

Draw the blade towords you a few times then get stuck in and get stronger.

Safest?! A handsaw or axe for firewood.

Out of those two, the mitre saw is safer because it can be mounted in place.

But both of those are designed for craftsmen requiring a reasonable degree of accuracy, though they are both cheap shit.

They are also both limited in flexibility. Goes without saying that for proper raw woodcutting a chainsaw is the way ahead. But it doesn't get a lot more dangerous than that, in the wrong hands.

circular saws are dangerous unless you know how to use them
my mate who has been using them for years almost lost his ba**s when one slipped
and ran up the inside of his leg, lucky he was "hanging to the right" if you know what I mean
or he would not be claiming family allowance

get a general purpose hand saw

I'm inclined to agree with the bow saw idea, a decent blade will go through most firewood with minimal effort and it's a hell of a lot easier to cut a chunk off rather than carry an uneven piece of wood to a saw on a bench and try to keep it there. A cheap chop saw will only cope with a fairly narrow cut anyway, probably 4-5 inches at most. You'll go through that with a hand saw in nothing flat.

Bow saw for cutting into rounds, a decently weighted axe for splitting it down to firewood (I prefer a logging axe for splitting to using a splitting maul, each unto their own though) and a hatchet for making kindling.

I've heard good things just this morning about the Irwin Evo Saw
https://www.tradecounterdirect.com/custom/images/products/hires/Irwin-Evo-Saw.jpg
One of the guys at work bought one for a decking project in his back garden and says it cuts thru decking and logs like the proverbial knife thru butter! Thumbs Up

Thing is with handsaws, just like manoeuvering my bike when it's off ... wobble wobble shite teknique ..

Your not using the saw correctly then, you cant force the blade into the wood, you have to let the teeth do there job. if you force it in while cutting the say will jam and as you said, wobble/flex. Start off by doing a few cuts by pulling the saw towards you to give you a starting mark then off you go.

If you have a good hand saw i can bet it will last longer than those power tools.

Eather get the Irwin or a bow saw with the CORRECT BLADE ( or youll get no where fast Laughing )

Electric chainsaw is worth considering but technique is important.
https://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?isSearch=true&fh_search=electric+chain+saw&x=22&y=11
This is what most use round here for smaller amounts
Not sure that exact one is any good but an example.

general public should not be allowed to buy chainsaws without some basic training
they are lethal if not used correctly
I used them for years when I was in the timber industry and had a few close calls myself
and I knew hot to use them, still have a scar from when a chain snapped and caught my wrist
through a pair of leather safety gloves

forget the advice I gave for not getting a chain saw, go get a big petrol one with a 1/4" chain and 4ft beam
then try using it one handed Thumbs Up
