Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone knows the voltage that I should be getting from the signal generator to the CDI on a bandit engine? at the moment its approx 0.3V.

The bike is a GSXF with a bandit engine I cant seem to get a spark, although it does turn over. The coils have been tested, as have the HT leads. I thought the CDI had failed (original GSXF item) but I have replaced it with a bandit item with TPS, although the TPS is not used (I have been advised the CDIs can be interchanged), and still no spark.

I did read another post by D O G with problems on their srad, which was solved with a new ignition barrel due to fact they bypassed a 100 ohm resistor, would this be a problem on the bandit engine (with GSXF barrel)?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Jack

Don't know if the teapot has the resistor ignition but the Bandit certainly does so if you're using a Bandit CDI you've got to make sure it is a resistor ignition or fit a 100ohm resistor in the wiring.
There's no voltage check for the pulse generator you should be checking the resistance which should read 135-200 ohm between the two wires at the connector that you'll find if you trace the wires back from where they come out of the crankcase.

Thanks Bezzer

The resistance is gd, about 170 ohm if I remember right.

Its starting to look like the wiring has a fault somewhere, the loom has been hacked about a bit over the years (13th owner, unluckily for me).

Thanks again

If you haven't got a resistor ignition it will turn over just won't fire, needs a 100ohm resistor soldering across the orange/yellow - black/white. For how much a resistor costs you might as well try that first before you go hacking the loom.

edit- just realised it "might" be a different orange-trace cable on a teapot, check your wiring diagram first to make sure it's the igniton switched feed from the switch to the CDI could be orange-red

I'll give that a go.

Thanks again

Most pulse coils don't produce a lot of voltage usualy .5 to 1v or so.

You could connect up a low voltage bulb/led to give a quick visual check of pulsing when you crank the bike over.

Being that most bigger bikes have d/c based ignition systems you can usualy just run a magnetic tipped screw driver past the pulser to produce a spark on that coil set

Cheers, at least I know its not way off.

Looking over the bike it looks like the signal generator isn't the problem. It was running on the 31st last month but since then no spark.

Thanks
