I was a very norty boy about 7 years ago and lost my licence for a year. I had to resit my test after the 12 month ban and on getting my licence for the second time, the pass date reflected this.

In the last 3 years, I've also managed to accrue 9 points for various different 'reckless' law breaking actions.

These have made quite a difference to my insurance premiums.

Anyway, I just got my licence back today (with an extra 'A' on it Wink) after surrendering it to the examiner when I passed my MOD2 a few weeks ago.

On perusal, I saw that the pass date/valid from has now been reverted back to my original car pass date (2003 instead of 2005) and my paper counterpart is completely clean - absolutely no mention of points and no blemishes at all.

Am I win?! Mr. Green

DVLA has points on record, if they are still active then not having them on the licence is no defence

But from my own viewpoint, my physical licence is the only place these are recorded. When my insurance company asks for a copy of my licence, do I say to them

'You won't find any points on there.... but, believe me, I really do have 9'...

They're gonna ask for dates etc..

From where I'm sitting, it looks like something has happened to the historical entries on my record and instead of it reflecting actual events, it's been reset back to my original car licence pass date (with added bike licence).

Do you think I should phone them up and ask for my points back? Very Happy

You are one of the few from the system who have won, I remember reading in MCN last year when people passed there A2 or car test after A2 the DVLA where wiping off there toher licence categorys and only returning the licence with the most recently passed test on.

Say nothing to nobody about the incident and chuckle to yourself forever about how you fortunatley fucked the system! Thumbs Up

I think you need to know where you stand. It's a hollow victory if you later wind up in a heap of shit because DVLA's records (and therefore the records the police and insurers will be looking at) show you have certain convictions on your licence when you claim not to have. We all know that ignorance is no defence - you are expected to check your licence and let them know if you think it's wrong and that would be the defence they would take if push came to shove.

If you do get pulled up on it, just behave like a total and utter retard.

"ermm...once i was riidinggg, and errm.. like there was a car and erm... ermmm, i crashed it. It was bad. I like fish fingers"

That way you can plead ignorance. Just say they weren't on my licence so you thought they'd expired.

huskie, it used to be common practice for people to hold two copies of their licence, one for insurance companies and one to record their points. The system is a lot smarter now and these people get caught out when claiming.

Its a risk, quite a big one.

That's exactly what I'm gonna do - the DVLA have screwed so many people over in the past.

In fact, I don't think the wiping of categories from licences was a mistake - I reckon it was a ploy to generate more income from the DSA by getting people to pay for their tests again.

If they aren't recorded on your paper license... they don't exist! Most insurance companies ask for a scanned copy of your license these days too... fire it over, clean license.

However, if you do manage to aquire 3 more, you may find the DVLA does still have them stored on their system and there was a printing error with your license and find you get an automatic ban sent to you?

Thats my opinion exactly, one victim was a plod officer, passed his a2 then car was just wiped off, despite him retaining a dated photo copy of both licence parts before sending it off the DVLA said there was nothing they could do. Cocks!!! Embarassed

The points are recorded on the DVLA computer which is linked to the police national computer so that if a check is done on your licence then they will show up.

As tempting as it may be to try and fool the system the only person who is going to loose out is you. If you have declared the points last year then insurance companies check these things and you could be found out.

Ignorance is no defence and do you really want more shit Evil or Very Mad Oh and the DVLA are cocks!
