Filled in for you. But a bit of confusion. What is the purpose of the HUD display?

Surely everything outlined on the questionnaire is already displayed on the motorbike?

Done.
Deffinately nothing in the visor. Ever.
The heads up display on the screen could work and if done very well could be very cool, but no deffo nothing on the visor as it would be too distracting and would inhibit your vision and peripheral and you would find yourself having to move your head around to bring things into view in the clear part of the visor.

I am doing the ground work for a HUD on a motorbike it is envisioned in my project that after the ground work has been done that it would move into some form of augmented reality type form(with sat nav directions, cars highlighted , edge of road highlighted in the dark), but that is beyond the scope of my project .

At the moment it will be a system of projecting the information so the biker doesnt have to look down at the instruments they are already there in their view , might make a safety difference .

thank you for filling the questionnaire

Speed in the helmet would be a good idea, IF it would not get in the way of viewing more important objects Thumbs Up

Also indicators (for those of us who forget to cancel them) Laughing But you say would you like this to be displayed in dials or digits? Couldnt do either with indicator HUD or is that me picking holes in the questionnaire Laughing

Anyways filled it in for you.

What would be nice is a satnav overlay map for road/place names which could also be helpful when riding at night down dark unlit roads. Thumbs Up

Just a rev counter along the top of the visor would be cool. Thumbs Up

It's a uni project, the op isn't likely to actually sell it or whatever. I wouldn't have one but if I did I chose the options I would want.

Wont work.

Sorry but it simply wont.

No point projecting anything onto the scree because you don't look through the screen on a modern motorcycle, you peer above it.

Wont work on a visor because you have to learn to walk before you can run.

I base this on the fact that they have yet to invent a visor that you can see through at night in the winter. They are either fogged up or scratched to oblivion by road salt withing two hours of getting them out of the packet so oncoming headlights appear as a huge starburst across your vision. I can't see this effect being improved by an illuminated rev counter being projected onto it.

My current all time record for a brand new (arai) helmet visor going from brand new to permanantly unuseable in the face of oncoming traffic in the dark was 25 minutes.

In short. Someone needs to invent a glass visor. As long as they are plastic, an HUD will be a bit of useless frippery. All I want to be able to do is see where I'm going on a dark rainy night with my visor down.

If you could do this, you'd have an idea I'd pay quite a lot of money for. In fact, If someone produced a visor that was absolutely garaunteed not to scratch or fog up, I'd be prepared to pay more than I payed for the helmet.

Indicator is good idea for those who forget to cancel.
Speed is a good idea, digits for ease/speed of reading.
Gear indicator could be a good idea as well.
As suggested above, Tacho along the top of the visor is pretty funky.

I'm talking about in helmet HUD, I think the main goal would be to minimise distraction. Everything bar the tacho would have to be at the sides of the visor.

Stinkwheel is spot on.

Most motorcycle screens are exactly where the clocks are anyway. The only time you might look through one is when you're doing 180mph and need to make yourself aerodynamic:

https://2wheeltuesday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Valentino-Rossi-Ducati-Test.jpg

Visors, on the other hand, seem to be routinely disposable and require regular replacement. I could only see it working on one of those tinted inner visors:

https://images.myleather.com/imagesproc/97201_H_SH315_MW355.jpg

But really, what do you need to know that you can't afford a moment to check the clocks for? You can hear the revs, and modern bikes give you a flashy red light to draw your attention when you're nearing the limiter and need to change gear.

thank you all for your participation it has been great, I am hitting this project from a bit of a different angle , more to do with designing something that has to be easy to use in attention minimal situations.

There are various ways of HUD implementation my favourite being the new 3rd gen laser displays, but its a bit beyond the scope of the course as im mainly concerned with the actual designing rather than implementation which would be more masters level.

I had already done a project concerning implementation thats why i chose to 'let lose my creative side' as design is not what I'm best at but its getting more and more important in computer science , interaction design and human computer interaction being the new buzz words that interest people

I should have made this a bit clearer

thank you for all your views its been a great help.
