I just bought my new set of seals for the fork... I've looked online to find out what to do, and a thing that isn't explained very well is how much oil to put in.

this is the page I went to:
https://www.motorcyclistonline.com/howto/replace_fork_seals/index.html

But it just says measure the level with the spring out....
measure it against what exactly?

Any help would be appreciated as I need to have this finished tonight

How would I know what the level is supposed to be? Is there a mark or something in there to go by?

Look in the owners manual.

Nope, your bike manual gives the oil amount and the air gap, if you haven't got a manual for yours get one as there can be subtle differences as to how you strip different model forks and avoid pitfalls. What bike and year is it??

The bike is a intruder 125, and a 52 plate.

Finally got the seals done and with the oil I was told that 1 litre would be more than enough, so I split it 50/50 and put the forks back together and put them on the bike. I tried pushing down on the bars and there was no real suspension there, so I decided to use some of the old oil to top it up a bit, I also found I'd forgot a couple of washers from inside (I didn't notice them fall out when I was emptying the oil out). A friend came back to offer advice and I said about the washers and he said they were supposed to be in before the springs etc... so I dropped them in and made sure they were flat, put another 100ml in each side, threw it all back together again and tried pushing the front down and it was solid. So back to the internet and eventually found that I had to take out 88ml from full. Eventually done that and before putting them back on the bike gave them a good press and bingo... nice suspension without the oil pissing out Smile

On a side note, it was a pain in the arse to get the fork back into place when I couldn't get the front wheel off Sad
