Separating Oil and Petrol

Due to recent problems with my carburettors, a little petrol managed to get into my engine oil (well the dipstick smelt of it). So being cautious, i changed the oil.

Am abit annoyed though, because the oil should be changed yearly/8,000 miles, and i'd already changed the oil early once (after only 4 months due to having replaced the clutch plates etc), and this new oil was only ~800 miles/6 weeks old!

I put it in a sealed container, and now i'm wondering if there's any way to separate the oil and petrol so i can re-use it at a later point, considering it's not exactly the cheapest stuff on the market and it's barely used.

petrol is a pretty strong solvent, I'd wonder what it had done to a multigrade oil and its.additives.

it would probably seperate after a while if you leave it to settle, and you could syphon the petrol off the top, but i dont know if the oil would be ok for a.motor.

How annoyed would you be when it goes bang after 50 miles because the oil was bad so you could save £15 on a can of fresh?

I would imagine the only way to separate it is by using a fractioning tower (i.e. big tower used by petrochemical companies to distill crude oil). If it was easy to separate mixed length hydrocarbons then they wouldn't need to use large expensive fractioning columns to do it industrially.

Oil is the main thing that keeps your engine alive, do you really want to risk blowing it up for the sake of £20 worth of new oil?
