Some kind soul knocked my bike over while it was parked in a lay-by outside the school I was teaching in and then pick it up, thoughtfully place the now snapped mirror on my seat, then left without leaving a note or anything! Oh, and they then left it sticking out into the road for someone else to hit if they felt like it! Rolling Eyes

Sadly, no CCTV or witnesses so far, but I'll ask again at the school cause I'm sure someone saw it happen.

Damage: Mirror sheared off, bar end scratched, indicator bracket cracked, engine casing scratched a bit and a small scuff on the exhaust.

[vent] Why is it these people don't have the decency to even leave a note? What is wrong with someone who can knock over a motorbike and cause very obvious damage, get out, pick it up, then drive off and think it is ok? [/vent] Mad

Suggestions of how to sort this out would be great. (i.e. not find them and kick their car in - serious helpful suggestions please!)

Consider yourself lucky that the bikes not dead completly. Thats about all you can do bud. Get it fixed from parts on Egay and live with the scratches to parts you cant afford to change.

Also check your pegs and hangars. They might be bent or broken.

I had mine pushed over the other week causing over £130 worth of damage, not including labour costs I would have had to shell out if a neighbour wasnt a mechanic with a lift in his garage. Mine was parked under CCTV cameras and lastest word is the camera's saw nothing.

The chances are it was local chavs with nothing else to do (because they are Cnuts and do things like that for fun), and someone else picked it up for you. You'll probably never find out who done it and its not worth screwing your no claims for the next few years.

Surely there must be CCTV coverage outside a school. Every inch of public space is covered these days, particularly schools, to guard against the literally thousands of nonces who apparently lurk around every corner with a radical Islamist intent on terrorism just behind them.

Be thankful that cheaper stuff ie bar end and mirror took the force. Smashed fairings and dented tank would have been a massive bummer

You pissed any kids off Laughing

Flip side.

It blew/fell over. Some kind soul picked it up for you Thumbs Up

Maybe if it was knocked over by a car driver, they did leave a note under the mirror and it blew away.

My zxr50 got blown over in the wind during a job interview.

I got the job but left the interview with damaged plastics, no front brake lever, snapped foot-peg, smashed coolant reservoir and scratched exhaust.

Honestly never thought of that side of it - was just a bit hacked off when I found it. Could well be something like that, but I guess I'll never know so I'll just get it fixed and park elsewhere next time!

I know I got off very lightly with the damage, its just a pain to fix when I'm busy at the moment. Anyway, I'll be checking out ebay in a mo for parts and get back up and running very soon.

Thank you all for that dose of reality - just what I needed. Oh, and the subframe is fine thanks! Laughing

Just to conclude the story, I eventually found out it was an old guy in a fiesta who didn't see it when parking up and sent it flying into another parked car which took the brunt of the fall (and somehow wasn't damaged in the process!). The old guy stuck around for a bit but not long enough for me to finish my 1 hour session teaching so he left and hasn't been seen since.

I've got most of the parts sorted now and its running fine. I was very lucky to get away lightly.

RF.
