I'm about to go pick up a bike but it has no tax. I have paid for insurance to start today but all i have recieved by email is:

Quote:
Devitt Motorcycle Insurance - Confirmation of Cover

Cover Issued From 00:01 hrs on 09/04/2011

Quote Reference Number: ...

Thank you for choosing Devitt Motorcycle Insurance for your Motorcycle Insurance policy, which is underwritten by Equity Red Star.

We would like to confirm that cover has been issued as requested. Within five working days, you will receive your policy documents and instructions on any other documentation that we may require from you in order to complete the purchase of your policy.

Devitt Motorcycle Insurance

All it has is a reference number no registration of the bike etc. Will i be able to use this to tax the bike? Confused

Thanks!

No. I had something simelar when I went to tax a bike and it was refused. Best thing to do is call the insurance company with your details and ask if they can fax the conformation of cover to you (or a fax machine that you can get to)

Some post offices will accept an email print out but our local wouldnt.

You do need to wait for the documents to come through. It should only take a few days.

Do it online. they'll check for insurance through the Reg number, and as long as it shows up (https://www.askmid.com) it'll get sent out to you.

Only downside to this is that you'll have to wait a wee bit on it coming through, but if you want to risk it, fair enough.

Or just wait on your documents coming through and take them to the post office.

I used a print out of the actual cover note which worked fine.
Just make sure you got all your documents with you... i.e. cover note, MOT and V5

The insurance I'm with (MCE broker Chaucer underwriter) and apparently they don't send out physical copies because of being eco-friendly so I had to use the print outs!
