Ubuntu Server deployment

I'm looking at using an old Dell Poweredge350 1 U server to run as a basic network file server. It's only a 750mhz P3 chip with 512meg of ram (later to be updated to 1gig) so won't be doing anything except being used as a file server.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and if so are there any pitfalls to avoid?

Yeah, I run a fileserver on a ubuntu box on my local network that stores all my media and so on.
No real pitfalls to speak of, other than to avoid Samba like the plague if you have any computers running OSX that want to access your media since the two just aren't interested in playing ball.

The only things allowed to connect will be be computers running XP so that shouldn't be a problem.
Sounds like I will be doing pretty much what you have.

Forget to say initially the server will have two 80gig hard drives until I can find some bigger ones in my old parts bins.

Also is it possible to stream from a Ubuntu box to an Xbox 360?
