after my trusty cbr shat its internals i decide to rather than replace with a cbr600 engine, to upgrade to a fireblade engine. First i thought it would almost a straight swap, but there is a lot of extra bracing/welding an alignment that needs doing but hopefully when its finished it will be lots of fun Very Happy
anyways this is what happened to the original engine.
nice blast out into Stratford and on the return journey noticed that it was a bit rattly at around 2500k, i just thought it was the cam chain tensioner so carried on a bit tentatively, then it got progressively worse until it just died. a roadside strip down revealed this...

all i can think is that the tensioner maybe got stuck and caused the cam chain to over-tighten an pull the sprocket off Shocked made a makeshift strainer to check (with my t-shirt) revealed shit loads of iron fillings.

The early cbr's are prone to bad cam chain tensioners. Mine was always rattling at startup, most people who track day them replace them with ape manual tensioners. Apart from that the engines are ment to be fairly bullet proof.

No need to purchase a manual CCT, just get a long bolt that has the same thread as the short bolt at the top of the CCT.
Make sure this bolt has the thread running the whole length of it.

Bosch it in there and use 2 nuts to lock it in place.

Pikey manual CCT Very Happy

Been using it for a while on my CBR Very Happy

Dude, just whip out the small bolt and stick in a longer one with a couple of nuts on it to lock it into place.

Eventually the CCT will fail and this is the cheapest option of sorting it.

You can buy a "proper" manual one from ebay but all you are doing is buying something that you already have.

Ill take a pick of mine and show you what i mean.

I'd like to see this too. I need to get around to changing them on the 'storm but on a student budget it's way down on the list of my priorities. A cheaper mod will be greatly appreciated!

If that's the case then your welcome to one of my spares. Just give it back when the new one turns up.
