I know bikes are high performance machines and I know the oil has to lubricate the gearbox and clutch as well as the engine but......

I went and picked up my wifes new car today, a Renault Twingo (it IS a car, honest). 1200cc of highly tuned mini (not).
Me: what are the service intervals
Salesman: 16000 miles Sir
Me: When is the first service
Salesman: 16000 miles Sir (looking at me as if I'm an idiot
Me: What about a 500 mile oil change and check
Salesman: No Sir, that was something that happened in the distant past

So my Hayabusa, which is 1300cc and just has to lug a bit of plastic and my fat arse around needs a 600 mile service then every 3000 miles. It is going to need 6 services before this poxy car that lugs 4 people and a metal body around needs the bonnet opening. Question

I know some bikes are 6000 mile intervals but surely its taking the piss. Do they say that just s the dealers get work?

IIRC Honda made an engine and ran it non-stop for 100,000miles. Everything was still in tolerance.

Depressing isn't it!

On the flip side, a mechanical failure in a moving car is less likely to kill me than one on a moving bike Razz
