Thanks to Korn, we now have the ability to rate posts and affect people's karma a whole lot more than before.

But may I just suggest that you use that power wisely. People will want to talk about things that do not interest you - that does not make it an inherantly bad post, just one that you don't find useful/amusing.

If we're not careful, new users will get karma-d off far too quickly, and that's something we don't want. So maybe some constructive guidance, or just keeping your mouth shut - keep bad-rating the posts for the real dross.

Indeed. 'In My Humble opinion': Generally it'd be nice if we could at least tell people why we flame them before just flaming them.

would it be possible to say tone the karma system (say divide it's effect by 5 or something) for an initial period after people join, for a set time or number of posts.

Just so people can get an idea of what they want before they get seriously penalised for stuff they didn't realise was considered bad or annoying.

A brief slap on the wrist to start off with If they get out of hand. If they carry on doing the 'wrong' things then they shall get 'told off'. Simple.

Let's let it run for a bit and then see how it's going, it there are problems I'll tweak it some more but I want to have it going for a while first to see if the current settings are any good?
