The daily mail artical is of course full of inaccuracies as you would expect. But 16 years for owning Replica weapon cant be just that?

Yeah, in 1945 Germany.

Sounds like many of them were not replicas, the article isn't exactly clear about it though. Guessing the guy's defence was that he thought they were replica/inactive.

Hi

Local paper mentioned nothing about replicas, and quite a few things in that article suggest they were normal weapons rather than replicas.

All the best

Nothing in the article says they were de-acs or replicas. It sounds like he had a load of real guns...

Replica guns aren't plastic. They are made out really realistic and many in the UK are converted to real guns. Having 500 bullets suggest that some or at least one was able to shoot.

Also you need to colour your replica guns if you do not have a license. Also the ebay thing seems like bullshit, I mean you can't even buy a paintball gun on ebay.

He was simply a man that was paid to keep the stash of guns for whoever. Possibly for the EDL or a far right group, but I would guess a gang. It depends who the 2 friends in prison are in it for.

As always ... I sit on the fence ("choose a side mother fu*ker")

1) Looks like he was an 'innocent' sad, lonely gun fanatic .. the evidence for this (which separates him from you run of the mill nutta') is that he dressed up manequins in his loft and posed them in battle like positions.

So 16 years Shocked for having a collection of guns when you are obviously just 'playing; with them ... bloody harsh that.
Would he not have got less for murder and rape ?

2) Michael Ryan was also a sad, lonely gun fanatic .... as was that Dunblane chappy .... relationship problems... obsessions with guns ... wearing combat hats and coats.
Then something snaps.. and: "oh look what I have here in my loft! ... an arsenal of killing things ".
Off they toddle to the local primary school .... popping off old ladies and postmen as they go.
(to be fair the postmen are probably asking for it)

Imagine someone like this living next door ?

Looking at the pics, the guns look real, at least goodenough for a conversion. Whether or not he just loves guns, it's illegal to own replicas now anyway.

If a gun gets pulled on you, you back the F down, no one knows if it's real or not, and no one wants to find that out.

MinhDinh, you're talking BOLLOCKS.

It is not illegal to OWN a replica weapon. It is only illegal to sell one as a retailer If you wish to buy an airsoft weapon for example, then it must be coloured in such a way that it is obviously not a real weapon. If you are a member of an airsoft club, then you are exempt from this rule.

However, criminals in the US (where there is a similar law) have gotten wize to this and started painting the muzzles of their guns orange...

There is no law that says you need to paint any existing replica weapons or anything like that. You're talking rubbish.

Looking at the pictures, those weapons were not airsoft weapons. They don't look like replicas. They are either deactivated weapons (which are still perfectly legal to own and buy) or they are pukka. My guess is that he was either a weirdo collector for whom the guns had to be real, or he was actually a gun dealer for criminals.

He was simply a man that was paid to keep the stash of guns for whoever. Possibly for the EDL or a far right group, but I would guess a gang. It depends who the 2 friends in prison are in it for.

RIFS can't easily be turned into real guns, pretty much a myth, you try and put a shotgun shell into a shotgun it won't fit, you could try and make your own real gun from scratch then try and bodge it into a RIF case but fuck that, even if it was legal, poorly engineered plastic with essentially high explosives you are asking to blow your hand off, and realistically it would be a whole lot easier to buy a real gun than spend hours machining all the correct parts and making them fit something that isn't designed to take it.
In fairness you can make anything out of anything, but really you are just disguising it, what bits do you think you can actually use to convert it?

You don't need a licence to own one per se, you don't need a licence to buy one per se, as there is no licence for owning a RIF you do however need a purpose and a membership to a certain organisation, and you need a purpose to use it, airsoft or re-enactments, airsoft you need to be registered player who has played more than 3 times in 3 months, to get UKARA registration to buy a RIF

Mutlicoloured guns these are people that want to get into airsoft or want a BB gun but are not yet UKARA registered to buy, so you buy a two tone gun, they work exactly the same as the normal RIFS and the stupid thing is, there is no reason why you can't just paint it, just say you bought it pre 2006 like all of my airsoft guns, I bought all mine pre 2006 before the stupid VCRA bill came into play

Most RIFS are plastic, my Steyr, 2 Desert Eagles, Spas and AK74 are plastic with a few metal parts, you can buy metal bodies for them if you want but it makes them heavy and usually expensive and pointless, really they are only for the sadder people, some of the guns use metal parts, but these are usually early guns, the 1928 Thompson and early MP40s are metal bodied and are horrid to carry about.

Ebay thing falls down to not being allowed to sell RIFS, and to stop them getting into the wrong hands as usual the reason for this bill is to stop us all from being criminals but allowing the criminals to be criminals.

As for this guy, no mention that they were de-acs, kinda stupid owning them if you know they aren't de-acs, but also where the hell is the machine gun that the daily mail reports? I see some sub-machine guns, some assault rifles, pistols and shotguns, but no M249 or M60, M1919

Yep, easily murder or rape, or both, someone and get a much lesser sentence.

Better go empty my kitchen drawer then, in case I have a funny episode, and decide to start walking through the street plunging my steak knife into peoples chests'. I know what you're saying but it could be applied to anything really.

Fucking awful piece of journalism. The writer has no clue what they are writing about and just trying to stir up shock and outrage.

MP40 similar to those issued to armed police?
Laughing

Did he kill anyone? No.

What harm did he cause? Oh, he could have had them stolen by criminal gangs or sold them to drug lords. Did he? No.

Just a sad man in his loft who wants to play war. Take the guns away and tell him about airsoft.

People /do/ get less for killing people. We are just so very scared of guns in this country.

Hi

Although quite what a German soldier would be doing with an American submachine gun while carrying a belt of ammunition to another weapon I don't know.

All the best

You need to watch more war films. The gun was from the GI that he had just knifed while stealing ammo for his mates up the road. Get with the program Keith. Rolling Eyes
