Hi,

After a ride today I noticed when I push my zx6 or have it on the paddock stand and spin the rear wheel it makes a ticking sound, the intevals between the ticks increases with the speed at which I spin it.

It sounds like it could be coming from the front sprocket.

Does anyone know if this is a tell tale sign of a fault? Or is it normal?

Help appreciated.

Thanks

Yes the previous owner had it all aligned properly and it looks like it still is. He seems to think its normal and is just the chain rollers running over the guide. But it only really started since the last ride. Any suggestions?

Its probably a tight spot in the chain. I had this. check sprockets for wear too. I had the same problem, and i sorted it by removing the chain, and soaking it in used enging oil overnight.

Rob and Dragstaar i think you both are right. The alignment and tension look OK. It is making the noise as the links go down onto the front sprocket. I will give the chain a good clean and lube and see whats its like after that. Thumbs Up

My CBR600 does it, has done since it had fresh C&S fitted ages ago. Never had any problems.

My Honda CBF1000 used to do it. Various mechanics checked it out and all sprockets, bearings, chain etc were fine. Just 1 of those things. Sounded like it was when the links made contact with the front sprocket.

A clean out under the front sprocket cover reduced it slightly but it soon came back.

My Bandit has recently developed a ticking noise, and after checking brake disks, calipers, pads and bearings etc, I'm guessing it must be the chain.
AFAIK everything is adjusted correctly, but when I tried to check the front sprocket for wear, I found that either the previous owner, or some ham fisted spanner monkey has rounded two of the allen bolts holding the sprocket cover on... Rolling Eyes
So probably means a trip to Machine Mart for some drill bits and/or an impact driver Evil or Very Mad

My chain clicks a little when rolling the bike but not when riding it, it's because I use an aftermarket sprocket without a rubber noise dampener.

If it is just one link that is clicking then this will not be the case and I would suspect a stiff/worn link, had the same thing on my last chain, would click whenever one specific link went over one specific tooh in the rear sprocket, cleaning it didn't help and it only stopped when I replaced the chain.

Hi
My YBR is very quite when cold and does the ticking when ive been out on it, from the front sprocket, all is aligned and lubed, i wondered if it was different expansion and contraction rates of the sprocket and chain, mainly one hotter than the other as the tension is set right too.
