Hi all,

Living in rented accomodation right now, the house is only 2-3 years old.

Got home nice and early today, sat out in the garden in the glorious sunshine when I notice a bee, thought nothing of it and then I saw another one. I then look up and there are about 20-30 bees gathered around my house only.

I can't get much of an idea where they are coming from, but there appears to be a hole up by the fascia boards which seems to be the most likely.

I've rang my landlord and he hasn't had to deal with something like this before, so is going to get back to me at the end of the day, but what else can I do? I know the council sort these issues out at a price, but I guess it is down to landlord to sort it?!

I don't really want to be responsible for destroying a honeybee nest and to be honest I haven't seen any in the house (though I haven't been at the attic since I moved in) but I know my wife is going to be a shivering wreck when I inform her later!!!

Jon.

Definitely up to him to get rid. Did you let the house through an agency? Whenever i have a problem i just inform the agency, they sort the problem out then tell the landlord, that way i dont get the landlord digging his heels in over sorting stuff.

Bees aren't generally aggressive and Mrs Bravo really has nothing to fear unless she starts attacking them or their nest. Ask her to read the link below. It should help to reassure her.

Enough room in your garden for a hive? Encourage them to live in it.

Trouble is they are not bumblebees they are honeybees, otherwise I would leave well alone as they are in massive decline. Apparently Beekeepers can tempt bees away and take them to a hive or something.

The best bit is that they are not wasps!!!

Landlord has just rang, has left messages with a couple of local beekeepers, but will make sure it is resolved within 24 hours. Fantastic.

Odd behaviour being exhibited by the bees, they are literally just "bouncing" off the walls of the house. It's quite fascinating really, i've just been outside watching them, but still can't find an obvious entry and exit "hole".

Tell her that you've found a hornets nest. Once she's nearly died from shock you can tell her the good news that it's actually only bees. Thumbs Up

Hi

We had a wasps nest in the house a few years back. They were no problem and we just waited until the end of summer to get someone in to get rid of them.

The council will come out but will charge. They were quite apologetic and kept saying we should just get rid of it ourselves. Didn't fancy that with something about 3 foot across though.

All the best

Keith

Just take it out a few weeks before calling them out.

Had a wasp nest here last summer which was a bugger as the lil fookers kept flying through my open window and getting into my room, stinging me when I was on the PC.

On the advice of a mate, got this wasp nest killer stuff and climbed up the ladder - wearing only my shorts and crash lid LOL - and fired it into the hole below the guttering to get rid of the little bastards.

Haven't been responsible for such an act of social murder since getting drunk in 07, whacking my nuts out on the pool table in the local pub and yelling "Cue: Laughter".

Worked a treat though.

I like wasps, at this time of the year they will not sting and even if they do it is just a bit itchy. Leave my waspy mates alone.

You should see them at the end of summer when they're about to die off mate, aggressive little fookers. Had one of the wasps in my aforementioned post crawl into my boot and sting me ten plus times on my ankle/foot. Evil bastards when they know they're about to meet their maker... *growlz*

They barely pollinate anything (in comparison to honeybees), become a nuisance when food runs out and are another reason for the honeybee population going into decline as they destroy colonies. Wasps are evil.

Turns out we haven't got an infestation of honeybees, they are actually Mortar Bees and the beekeeper has no idea where they are coming from, but they rarely ever sting and are not attracted at all to humans/food. They should be gone by the end of May.

You should see the holes they are creating in between the bricks though. The house is only 2 years old, thank god I don't own the house. Laughing

Probably best to just let them bee then!

Maybe worth the landlord sorting the pointing out in the summer when theyve buzzed off.
