Hi All,
I wonder if any techie guys out the can help!
I have just bought a 2005 Gilera runner SP 50 but have notice that the lights remain on at all times & that there is no on/off or H/LOW beam switch and that the high beam blue light is blanked off Question .

Is there anyway that this can be rectified or converted by purchasing a switch as there is a wired connector beneath the blank cover and do I need to do anything else as driving around is not a problem but not to have an option of on/off and h/low beam seems pretty poor!

your thoughts and ideas would be gratfully appreciatted. Smile

On my old Speedfighter 2004 i didnt have an on/off switch but i had a switch for high beam/low beam. They stayed on all time but were on low beam for most of it, doesnt really make much difference in the day, they arent the brightest of lights

Take a picture of the cockpit, you may have just not noticed the dipped/high. If I remember the runner rightly, the button on the left can go up for full, middle for dipped, and click down for flash.

Or something like that.

Hi
thanks guys for the prompt replies, but on the 2005 model there is no switch at all just a blank covering where one should or use to be but as I said earlier there is a wired connection beneath.

it is a euro regulation that bikes made after 2002/2003 or something have permanent headlights on.

My 2004 bandit 600 had permanat on dipped beams.

M4 2000 ZX6R does not.

There are quite a few options for my bike
If i turn the ignition to a point, it doesnt turn any of the electrics on apart from those which use the motor.
If i turn the ignition all the way to the lit option i am stuck with either Headlight, dipped beam, side lights or i can flash high beam. At least i think thats what it is! Its possible you just cant switch it off, otherwise if the wiring it there, take it to your local dealer and ask them to do it for you!

Yeah
I understand the european idea of driving around with them on but surely there should be some option then about a high beam light issue! any thoughts

Your runner is pretty much the same bike as my old nrg mc3. My nrg never had an on/off switch either, and the lights were utter shite, though the ones on your runner sound as though they use headlight bulbs rather than sidelight bulbs... How on earth they were legal i don't know.

You can wire up a switch yourself, go to the scrap yard, get a switch off an earlier model, and find a wire going to the headlight. Cut it, and run another wire from each of the cut ends to the switch.

runner 50 lights are useless,

I remember trying to get all the lights working on my x reg 50 when i had it because it only had sides (did about 150miles then went back to the bus) they are not wired to run/switch to main/high beam even if you fit the switches from the bigger engined bikes if I remember correctly after i fitted the high/low switch the tail light/side light would go out when on high/main beam.

So i ended up switching the wires to the main headlight instead (was still crap though)
