Ok guys, need a little advice here!

I have been working tech support for about 5 years now,
Been through a few qualifications CompTIA, Microsoft all that biz and its time to move on to a better job basically.

I got a call today about a possible role that sounds perfect for me BUT they want to give me a "technical test" just wondering if any of you know what this might cover? I mean I know what I’m doing but the word "test" is freaking me out a bit as I have no idea what this is going to be.

Just thought I would ask, see if anyone had any clue?

Cheers.

They'll give you something to fix or diagnose.
It will be something they have come up with themselves.

Depends on the type of job really. Given your background i'm guessing it's another tech support sorta job?

In interviews a technical test can vary.

For example some interviews it's been actually physically solving a problem e.g. one company got me to fix a problem they've been having for a few months that they couldn't solve

Others have been trying to fix a intentionally crippled windows box

Whereas my current role were just some questions they'd copied out of the MS MCSE practice questions.

Their mainly done just to prove you're not fobbing them off and you are capable of what you're CV says you are. But should also give an idea to the company of your diagnostic & trouble shooting methodologies.

It'll be a PC on a desk with non-working network. The IP address will have been set manually to an incorrect one and you'll need to change it to DHCP.

I reckon.

Then they'll ask you lost of "what if", "what would you do if..." type questions.

Turns out it was a sit in front of this computer and answer these questions test, weird range of questions from one about wireless networking to one about a user with a bad leg, still I scored "advanced" and im quite pleased with that.
