6 weeks before you're allowed to ring them and chase it up is the standard BS. Most stuff tends to take around 2 weeks. ____________________ My Flickr |

This is the DVLA we're talking about. Unless you ordered your license before 1802 then you have no chance of getting the thing in the near future.
The way the place works is as follows.
Postman arrives with post. Details are checked to make sure he is the postman and not some random bloke. This takes about 5 working days.
Post is retrieved after verifying the postman is indeed who he claims and put into an "in" tray on Shirley the secretary's desk.
Shirley the secretary has enough to do in her regular day before she even considers checking the license applications. Theres filing her nails, talking to her best friend Dorris about the royal wedding thats coming up and the street party she's planning. Add in talking on the phone to people complaining that they havent gotten their license through that they applied for 100 years ago.
Shirley then has to follow health and safety when opening the mail as we all know papercuts are serious business and cost the DVLA thousands a year in plasters.
Your application form is checked to make sure theres no errors and you have spelt everything correctly and enclosed the relavent ID and payment and then it gets put on Dorris's desk in the "new applications" tray. This takes about a week.
Dorris now has to Re check Shirleys work because the boss wants her to keep an eye on Shirley as he suspects Shirley is on the fiddle somewhere but cant prove it. Dorris hates this part as she feels like shes betraying her best friend and has a yammer to Trish the Tea lady about this who very understanding. Dorris then prints out the applicants address onto an envelope and returns the ID. Placing the check into Barry the Banker's tray marked "Payments" and then signs the application form and sends it downstairs to Charlie the geek in the computer room to put it onto the system for Paul the Printer. This takes about 15 working weeks.
Charlie the Geek inputs the form into the machine that reads the paperwork provided the applicant has used the correct pen and not written anything outside of the boxes. Then Charlie the geek scans your photograph, which takes about a month because Charlie is a little slow and has a tendancy to put the wrong picture into the machine. Last time it happened Donna from Cumbria had the face of Frank from Farnham. The confusion that Shirley had to hear on the telephones was that bad she had to take a week off work for stress related illness. Thats why David the Checker was employed to keep an eye on Charlie the geek.
Having made it onto the Computer Paul the Printer has to wait for the go ahead from Barry the Banker before he prints off your new Driving License card and counterpart. Afterall the cheque you send has to clear in the banks. That takes a further 3 working days and is one of the shortest parts of the whole process.
Meanwhile Shirley is getting it in the ear because you still havent recieved your license yet and you didnt send it in First Class Recorded.
Paul the Printer then prints your counterpart and plastic license, which takes another 5 working days and sends the 2 parts back upstairs to Shirley in reception into her "out" marked tray.
Shirley then takes her time before giving it over to Postman Pat when he calls in again.
What happens at the Post Office is a whole other story.
Thats why it takes so long to get your license! ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master
