im just getting into biking. since i started driving cars Ive been on as many epic road adventures as time and money allowed, but the prospect of a motorcycle trip is really getting me excited.
for me nothing beats a bit of freshly caught fish( if im lucky) with a beer at the end of a day on a camping trip. obviously in a car its never been an issue even in my little two seater. but would it be possible on a bike?
anyone go fishing on a bike? take a rod on your travels?. clever ways of attaching fishing rods to bikes? pictures?
thanks

Yeah, what baza said. I don't imagine you could land a basking shark with one but I'm sure it'd do to while away a few lazy hours.

Actually, sounds like fun.. Like a two-wheeled Huckleberry Finn.

Not sure where the pics are now, but I had some crutches on my CCM404 using two drain pipes attached to the rear of the bike (pillion pegs pointing diagonally up and back).

Telescopic is the way forwards. You can get a telescopic that'll cope with any sort of fishing in the UK other than heavy boat fishing (and even then you can get a five piece takedown boat rod that fits in a pannier).

The only difficulty I've had is a beachcaster suitable for a multiplier reel on account of the necessarily wide ring spacing so it's fixed spool only.

That said. I've also taken a 3 piece heavy beachcaster on the bike by mounting a bit of drainpipe with one end blanked off to the back rack and having it stick up like a CB antenna.

Got a decent haul last time I went to Orkney with my telescopic beachcaster:

I had a couple of Shakespear telescopic rods a number of years ago. Really good quality IMO, and slotted down to about 18 inches long, with a hard cover over the top to protect the eyelets Thumbs Up

Agreed with the telescopic comments.
Like the poster above, i've got a couple of Shakespeare telescopics that extend to around 6ft, but pack down very small.
I've had Pike up to 12lb on them from the GUC, brown trout from a stream in Wales, Mullet in Cornwall & Cumbria, and even a couple of small Catfish out of the Dordogne.
For light spinning and lures they work reasonably well, bubble float and worm works well enough for trout, even a bit of light ledgering is ok.

Plastic tube strapped onto the bike, then slide the 3 piece rod into it, place end cap on and secure with tape. Secure bait box with reel and all other bits onto pillion seat with cargo net.

id never have thought telescopic beachcasters... btw that looks like a great catch stinkwheel. the scottish coast can be immense to fish when the weather is right.

I've had my telescopics for at least 20 years, still going strong. My Dad bought them originally for use on family holidays, now my kids are using them.
Not as good as my standard use 2pc 6ft John Wilson spin rod, but they do well enough.

I used to just strap my rods straight to the side of the frame on my ns. My friend on his nsr got some threaded bar and welded a loop on the end so the rods didnt rub the fairings. Stuck out a bit though as he wanted to have the rods on the outside of his legs. Wouldnt recomend his option though. Pedestrian jousting. I also bought a back pack with built in chair which was ideal.
