You can get a wind up torch with LED's. Lidil's or Aldia's. less than ten pound. And you can hang it from the roof of a tent. Up side or down side is. The light is not that bright, Enough for in side a tent. And your not for ever winding the thing up.

How about hanging whatever torch you take with you from the top of the tent, works fine with my headtorch, saves taking more and more junk with you for purposes that can be met by other items.

I'm not a fan of wind up torches, i've had a £6 Tesco one and a £1 poundshop one which were equally good until you leave them switched on by accident. It seems if you do this then they never hold charge again.

^^^+1

Size of tent will have a bearing on which lights to use.

Thanks for your suggestions chaps! Unfortunately me and the wife both have smartphones and we need to conserve the battery life - using the torch on them just kills them. They are ok to use briefly but are not too good as a solution whilst in the tent.
Thats why I'm thinking one of those UFO jobs - battery life on LED's is fairly lengthy isnt it?

Cheers! Very Happy

In our large tent (Outwell Nevada M) I use a UFO light and a string of white LED fairy lights powered by 3 AA batteries, bought for a couple of quid from Wilkinson. For night time or camping on my own I just use a cheapo 3 LED headtorch.

Last year I bought a couple of solar powered set of white LEDS (about 20 lights I guess). Worked bril. Cost about £5 each in B&Ms. MORE than enough light from those. One set would be enough really.

I just left the solar unit on the tent top daytime and switched the lights on for the evening. Still working at bedtime.

Only "iffy" bit was the plug & socket where the lights plug into the solar unit. Low quality and before camping this year I may take one set apart and hard wire the lights to dispense with the plug & socket

For camping around Europe I got a 5w bright LED head torch, which I broke, so made do with my 'emergency' Petzl e lite - https://amzn.to/eCabWb .

Turns out it did everything I needed (well, apart from use as an extra torch while riding trails at night) and one set of batteries lasted the whole trip. Plenty of light for camp use and it's decently small.

As Phoenix suggests - hang it inside the tent if needed.

I have a really simple Scarfell Rock torch (approx 8cms long), which has a hook on the back to hang in the tent, it has a moveable section which when you pull apart acts as a lantern, I've had it years.

I leave that inside the tent when erected, and have a head torch for mooching about.
