buying VF400 - not sure what to look for!

Hey folks,

I'm sniffing around for my first "big" bike after passing my A2 licence, and have spotted a VF400 on an S plate. It's got no MOT or tax as it needs fork seals and a few other really minor bits. But it's cheap!

I'm fairly handy with a socket set, but was wondering what I should look for?

I will be taking a mate with me as well and will NOT risk my licence by riding it home...
