Hi I brought an aprilla rs 125 that had been stolen and recovered and have built it up from scratch. I have had a compression tees and it said I had low compression, so I fitted a new mitaka cylinder and piston thinking that this will fix the bike. I am getting good compression from it now and there is fuel to the engine and am getting a ok spark. I did get it running and overtime I gave it throttle it wouldn't increase much in reeves. But it kept bogging down and now it wont start and every so often it ignites the petrol for a second. I have cleaned out the carb as well. Can anyone help before I give up and take it to a mechanic.

new spark plug Thumbs Up

Definiatly get a new sparky make sure its the right one aswell i had a 10 in my bike! and it needed a 8 i had a spare 9 and it still ran poo, soon as i got the br8 it ran perfect...

if not look at the mixture settings...

if too much 2 stroke is going through or too much petrol or too much air find the correct settings and do that this can make a hugeee difference!

Hi

On a 2 stroke the spark plug is pretty much a consumable. Best to carry a spare with you in the tool kit.

An 8 is for the restricted bikes and a 10 is for the full power versions. High revs thrashing will run the plug hotter which will potentially start to blister and fail hence the hotter plug. Low revs use will potentially foul the plug. And with a restricted one you aren't going to be using high revs thrashing it to keep the plug clean, hence the 8 plug.

If the bike is (or at least was) managing to idle but dies when given any throttle then check the reed valves.

All the best

Keith
