My 06 plate CBR600RR is on 10.5k miles now, the next service is 12k which is a slightly bigger one (£225 though!) and then 16k miles is the biggy(£325!!!!)

I purchased the bike on 7k miles for £4.9k, what do you reckon the loss would be from not having a full Honda service history?

Seems extortionate this servicing business...

Thats about the right price for the bike, sadly. Servicing is expensive but can be offset with doing it yourself. Get a service manual (lots of places have them in PDF for free) and do all the work yourself to save money, or with a friend who's knowladgeable.

The downside to DIY is lack of paperwork when it comes to reselling the bike. Keep the recipts for the parts you bought, (oil filter, air filter, brake pads, fluid etc) but its still no substitute from the recipts from a garage for work carried out.

If you do it yourself, the money you save would offset the loss in value of the bike from not having a FSH many times over the course of a few years.

Keep receipts, take photos and write a wee servicing diary (with receipts and photos to back up your claims) and most buyers would accept that the bike has been well cared for.

Depends on how long you intend to keep it and how many miles you intend to put on it before you sell i guess.

For me, the general condition of the bike and the attitude of the seller would count more than an official service history.

Would you rather own a 5 year old bike which is neglected maintainance wise all year round but has all its service stamps or the same bike same mileage which is regularly, cleaned, oiled, serviced etc by someone who does all their own work on the bike?

If you don't want to do the servicing yourself then just take it to a reputable local mechanic. I doubt anyone will care if it's not a Honda service history as long as it's got proof it has been serviced.
