Hey all. In Oct 2005 I was in a bit of a spill, and got 3 screws in my ankle. Ever since it's been pretty useless as an ankle, and recently has been getting worse. I can't stand up for more than 5 minutes without being pretty uncomfortable with the pain, and am usually woken up during the night with pain also. I can't run on it, and walking especially downhill is a real chore.
I have heard of people getting their screws out, and this alleviating any problems they have had such as pain etc.
Anyone out there had their screws out? What was your reason for removal, how easy was it to convince the docs to do the surgery, what was the wait for surgery, what was the recovery time compared to the initial ORIF, and have you noticed any changes now with the screws out?
I have been to the doc who sent me for x-ray, so I'm waiting on word back, but I'm looking for a bit of first hand experience on the subject.
And just for interests sake;

i had the screws removed in my left wrist after an accident i had which ended up with me shattering my left wrist and pulling all the tendons off as well,i asked for the screws to be removed as they were causing me pain every time i moved my wrist ,turns out the screws were catching on the joint as my wrist moved ,had the screws removed and the pain eased off a hell of a lot,still not a lot of movement there but nowhere near as much pain.good luck mate.andy |

I had screws in my hip, the fuckers screwed them in too far and damaged my hip even further, the pain i was getting when walking was unbareable. Since having them out it's alot easier to walk but I still get a lot of pain from arthritus in the hip regardless.
I would recommend getting the pins removed if you're in a lot of pain, once healed get onto physio. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
