TL1000R, in blue and white.

I've got a semi on just thinking about it.
The TLS has the death rotary rear steering damper, and the firestorm has a tank range of about 300m.
SV1000 is worth considering. SP1 is one sexy bike though.

With regard to reliability, this is a detuned Firestorm engine in my bike. I bought this bike beacuse I found about 5 owners who had gone over 100k miles on them with no major problems and I do a lot of mileage.

First off - the SV650 does not really have much low down power, it's just not got a big hit at the top. And err, not sure about the noise either really .
Further, I think it's a good example of a commuter bike, not a twin specifically. Something like a Hornet also has a pretty bland engine.
The litre sports twins tend to less usable low down (ironically the big sports 4s tend to be better), but do have a reasonable amount of midrange feel, partly thanks to their lower gearing compared to the 4 cylinder bikes.
Anyway, sports twin different to commuting twin.
So, get a TL-S if you're male, or a VTR if you're a scardey female type . |

Eh? I'd expect a TL-S to have 'more grunt' and just as much V-twin noise .
Tl-R actually sounds a bit less v-twinny (more kinda 'turbine like') for some reason, though probably just due to the exhausts that have been on the ones I've ridden or something. |
