On Radio 2 this morning (yes sad, I know) there was a news article about a man in a hired Peugot 406 who had a speeding ticket through, stating clearly that he was caught speeding at 406mph Shocked.

I fear for the guys with Morris 1000's.

It tickled me Laughing

Hi

Here are some more details:-

Quote:
Man issued with speeding fine 'for driving at 406mph'

A motorist has been issued a fixed penalty notice for allegedly driving at 346mph over the speed limit on a Cheshire road.

Peter O'Flynn says he was stunned to receive the speeding notice claiming a Runcorn roadside camera had clocked him driving at 406mph.

Officials say it's a clerical error, but say Mr O'Flynn will still be prosecuted.

Peter was driving a Peugeot 406 courtesy car while his own was being repaired. He said: "I rarely speed and it's safe to say I'll contest this."

The Peugeot 406 Sport has a top speed of 129mph. "I don't see how anyone can trust this camera," added Mr O'Flynn.

But the Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership, which issued the speeding notice, said they would still take action despite the blunder, says The Sun.

A spokesman said they would be applying to magistrates for a summons.

Story filed: 07:49 Wednesday 21st January 2004

All the best

Keith

Maybe this is a stupid question but how can they admit that they were wrong but yet still fine him?

I guess they will say "oh yeah, out camera was out by 340mph" or similar.

I would reckon if they took it to court it would just get thrown out, as the camera obviously isn't quite right Laughing

Apparently it was a clerical error not an error with the camera itself. So it probably would still hold up in court.

Yes, looks like they have typed his car make into the speed box, and probably his speed into his car make.
