I was going to have my fork seals changed and a garaged quoted £120 however I have managed to pick up some forks with new oil and seals already so how much would a garage charge just to swap the forks over ? My bike is an NC29 so fairly straightfoward job ? any ideas peoples ? I'm thinking an hours labour ?

More than an hour in their eyes, Do it yourself? Ive swapped forks over before, piece of pie.

Easiest way is to jack the bike up and remove front wheel, unbolt forks and remove.
Assembling is the exact opposite.

Fork seals also... Im sure they are a pretty easy job, maybe someone on here could have done it for a few ££ or a beer Thumbs Up

Hi

I would expect quite a bit more than an hours work. Will depend on what you have to support the front end.

Paddock stand that goes into the head stock will make it easy. One under the bottom of the forks would be useless. Also depends on how easy it is to get at the pinch bolts on the yokes (ie, ZZR600 is a nightmare for the ones in the bottom yoke).

Doing it yourself you will probably need to support the bike under the front of the engine, so that will mean removing the fairing.

All the best

Keith

If you know your way around your fairings, then I reckon you ought to do it yourself. Its just a question of unbolting everything from your fork legs: wheel, brake caliper, loosening top and bottom yokes, and they just slide out.

To get to the yokes though, you'll probably need to remove fairings, which can be a pain in the arse, and might result in some snapped lugs.

I have a half-faired bandit, was worried about how hard it would be, and went to my local "mechanic" (bloke who works for a garage, but does stuff on the side in a small shack lol). He charged me £20 for changeover, fair price. but as i watched him do it, I realised just how easy it was. But its also down to what kit you have. My bike had a centre stand, and he had a hydraulic bench, so he just jacked the whole thing up, strapped down the back wheel, which lifted the front end up, then got down to business.

If you don't think you can get the front end up safely, I'd say your better off just giving it to a friendly garage.

I have one of these and a pretty decent workshop (ok, double garage that I made into a workshop) If you're Suffolk way I would be happy to help and show/teach you for the future Thumbs Up
