As I was doing about 40 mph down a hill, it suddenly lost all power and eventually came to a stop.

Turned out the spark plug cap had come off, so put it back on, and it started up.
But this time the engine wouldn't idle and would cut out if revs weren't applied.

And to add to that, the headlight and lights behind the speedo and fuel gauge aren't working now either. Sad

Anyone know what might have happened to cause all this?

Could it be the fuse in the spark plug cap?

No fuse in the cap. Check all electrical connections, earths, battery etc.
