Another thing to add to my list of things going wrong with the ped.

Whilst I was out on a ride on Monday, my ay50 suddenly lost all power and came to a stop.

Wouldn't start after kicking it a few times, so had to push it to the nearest petrol station.

Turns out the spark plug cap came off, so I put it back on, kick started it and it started up. But this time it wouldn't idle and would conk out after about 2 seconds without applying any revs.

And now my headlight and the lights behind the speedo and fuel gauge aren't working either. But the warning light for the indicators is?

Checked the battery e.t.c and all is as it should be.

Right before it broke down, the horn gave a weak little whine.(almost like it was dying)

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

I've bought another spark plug which should arrive tomorrow.
Just annoying because the spark plug is in such an awkward place and can't get a socket round it. Mad

Cheers Thumbs Up

DONT be ham-fisted tightening up the spark plug, it's a p of p to strip the thread, a lot easier than you might think !.

Sounds like the start of an annoying electrical problem Thumbs Down

For starters have you make sure that the battery is charged and holding that charge

Have you checked the fuses on the bike, can't remember where they are if if it has any as I had my Katana 11 years ago Neutral

When the plug cap came of it could have created a voltage spike which blew the bulbs.......may be worth trying a new headlight bulb to discount this. Also may have damage voltage regulator / rectifyer.

The fuse was fine. Not split or anything.

All the indicators, horn, warning lights and brake light work so can't see why it would just be the headlight and instrument pannel lights that aren't working?

Sounds like all the lights that were on when your plug cap fell off, it is worth taking the bulbs out to check them.

I had a random one the last time I took the CG out, it blew both eliments in the stop/tail bulb while I was checking it over, changed the bulb and it was fine.

Check all the wiring along the frame. Something has come apart or connecters have broken.

While the battery may show 12V, what does it show with the engine running.

You should really replace the plug cap with a decent one, it's always recommended. It caused me problems for ages since it can be such an awkward problem to find. I only fixed it a few weeks before selling the ped, bastard who bought it had a reliable little bike thanks to my pain!

The bulb thats currently in the headlight is a 60/55w.

But in the haynes manual it says the headlight bulb should be a 35/35w.

Did the headlight stop working because the bulbs wattage is too high?

No but it may have melted the wiring due to it's higher current draw. Just get a new bulb, it will cost you a couple of quid then you can see whether thats the problem and if not you've got a spare which you really should carry anyway.
