What is used for sticking on new grips?

I gather that they're then cable tied into place to cure but what glue is used in the first place?

you can get grip glue, but al i usualy do is make sure the bars are free from grease etc then use petrol as a lubricant whilst pushing the new grips on.

when the petrol evaporates the grips should be solid.

Never worked for me. I tried loads of 'tricks'. Lock-light, petrol, paint. All created spinning grips!

Hairspray - but not a 49p special. Might as well use grease. Get a good quality max-hold-type hairspray.

Clean grip onto clean bar works for me.
Used both these ways:

White spirit on a rag then wash off with water. Dry it and push on the new grip.

Brake cleaner, allow to dry and push on the grip.

[edit] Do Honda and Kawasaki use different hairsprays during manufacture....Bet they do.

Well extra firm hair spray has been applied and tied down so we shall see.

Thanks for the cheap idea.

Hairspray DID NOT work for me.

Just fitted heated grips (excellent timing, now the sun's come out, of course) - tried using hairspray, some brand name maximum hold stuff in a green tin (Silvikrin perhaps?) but alas - left overnight to stick but they still spun like a bitch.

Got some wee one-shot tubes of superglue in the hoose so used one of them instead - sorted.

EvoStik or 3M 9009 double sided tape (or similar). Mind, you might need to cut the buggers off.
