Basically i have quite a lot of rust patches in my frame and various other parts the the bike, i.e wheel rim, and back foot peg ends. Sad

I know about sanding down the rusty parts and applying rust prevention products but i'm not sure what the best paint to use on it would be.

At the moment i've been looking at Hammerite Metal Paint but not sure if this would be sufficient enough.

That's the stuff to use.
Basically all you need to do is remove the rust, then paint over the bare metal to stop it coming back. If it's so rusty that removing it all leaves you with nothing, you need a new one.

I have some Hammerite Kurust. I haven't used it yet, but it apparently cures rust, turning it back to metal. As the label says
"Converts Rusty Metal to a Clean Surface in 15 minutes."

It was recommended to me on here, but like I said, haven't used it. But it's claiming to fix the rust, rather than cover it. Maybe you should take a look at it ?

That stuffs crap. I used some on the Gixxer subframe and it did precisely... Nothing. Just sand it down and paint on the hammerite. It stops the oxidisation as well as giving a decent finish.

Alternatively you could electrolyte it to remove the rust, then get it shot blasted and powder coated to provide you with a professional, long lasting finish.

Thank you for all the help it was very useful.

I think i'll stick with sanding down the areas that contain rust, put rust prevention products on it then paint on the Hammerite. Seems like the easiest option to me Very Happy

I would just paint hammerite straight on, don't neccessairly remove all the rust, but sand/remove the flakey bits, clean up and paint straight on.
