So I'm getting another motocross bike to take my anger out on. I last had one when I was a nipper and the old man did all the work to it.
Anyway I know about when the rings need changing but when do you know it needs a new piston and do they re coat the cylinder or what these days?
Sorry about the newbie kind of question but can't find anything that answers it on here.

Thanks

Gray

Comp 2 strokes usually measure piston life in hours used or mileage. Find out how many hours is on the piston and keep a log when you use it, then change it on the manufacturers recommendation.
The performance improvement with a new piston is quite marked and if you ride a lot and know your bike you can feel it going off.
The bores are super hard and should only need replating if they are scored or damaged. I've had seizures on the TZ that locked the back wheel and the bore was ok after scraping the aluminium off it.
Hope this helps,

OGR

Thank you. Perfect answer karma sent.
Can you get anything to monitor how many hours the bikes been used? Apart from my brain?
