hay everyone right i cant figure out why it takes so long to start my 1990 tzr125.

* fuel on
* ignition on
* new spark plug
* adjust choke to weather conditions

i am completely out of ideas on how to correct this problem so any ideas or theorys would be really welcome

Once it starts does it rev freely and idle ok?

hi umm no it doesnt i have to keep a hand slightly on the throttle for a minute or 2 so it warms up a bit but soon as it is warm it idles ok. i have tried adjusting the idle screw but to no avail. scott

The main jet could be partially blocked. Take the jet out of the carb and spray some carb cleaner in the jet and then blast it with compressed air. Reassemble carb and try again.

ok i shall try this in the morning. sounds silly but i thought it could also be the starter motor? it is a old bike and im trying to re-build it correcting on my way.

If it is actually cranking over and sparking I doubt it would be the motor. Is the battery holding charge? Put a multimeter across the terminals and see what it says. It should be around 12 Volts. If its not charge up the battery and try again.

it is round 12v and it does hold the charge i have checked this and it is a new battery. ok sorry i am new to re-building bikes this is my first project as it were
