Right, not entirely sure this is the correct place to put this but seems the most convenient

Basically, i have a Honda XR125 and i was planning to buy a Sat Nav (car one, miles cheaper Very Happy )

I have since decided to use a turn by turn navigator app on my phone which i found online and it looks adequate enough.

The problem is i'm not sure what to use for safety and security, im tied between a handlebar mount or a tank bag as my mobile is worth a lot more than the sat navs i was going to buy.

If i went for a tank bag for my bike i aren't too sure where to find a good yet cheap place to buy one, today i've found two on eBay that look suitable but im not sure if the price will reflect its quality.
The one i found are:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200383691582&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300545660871&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

And as my tank is pretty small im not sure if they will fit without overhang.

I am yet to of found any suitable handlebar mounts that aren't in excess of £40 that look like they won't just snap if i go over a speed bump Shocked

Here are 2 pictures of the bike and tank for you guys to check with:

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
Will

Why do you want a sat nav?

For me I find a map/google maps routemaster ample. I can pull up google maps on my phone if I get really stuck, but it's not happened yet. (Touch wood).

I live in London and i go up to Peterborough every weekend on a train and would much rather go on my pride and joy.

It's not a long ride but as i'm on a CBT license i am unable to go on motorways and trying to find my way up there using directions was a disaster the last time i did it.

Phone in pocket and either ear phones or even better bluetooth to give you directions.

That way your eye's are on the road and not looking at the sat nav.

I have this one GIVI S850 UNIVERSAL WATERPROOF and use it with a garmin sat nav. Only prob is the touch screen doesnt really work over the plastic cover, so set you route first then pack it in.

I would really reccommend headphones or a small speaker from a destroyed walkie-talkie type thing or you can off ebay. I have the speakers fixed to the inside of helmet.

No speakers is gonna be either dangerous (if you focus on the satnav) or useless.

For you bike i think one of those clamp-on type cases would be better as you can easily attach it on the steering bar. Price is about the same afaik. 30 to 40 quid off ebay for the GIVI stuff.

A sat nav/phone on navigation in a tank bag is dangerous, it will be difficult to see and you will spend a lot of time looking at it whilst wandering across the road, mount it high use a security strap if your worried about it!

Thumbs Up x ∞. Treat the directions as purely suggestive. If you actually need to look, then stop and take it out of your pocket.

Once you have done the journey a couple of times you'll not need the satnav anyhows so no point spending money out. as said stick it in your pocket (in a plastic bag) and use head phones till you know your route

Dont waste your money on a satnav, get a smartphone instead and just keep it in your pocket and use headphones to get directions etc.

HG do/did a little satnav pouch that attaches to the handlebars

https://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/motorcycle-luggage/hein-gericke-streetline-tankrucksack-spezial-gps.html

It's the small part on the top of that pile of tank bag. I say "did" as I can't find it seperately on the new HG site.

Anyway, £17 and takes a car satnav just fine. I've added a fuse and relay protected igination live ciggerette lighter socket under the seat to plug in to.

I don't worry about the spoken instructions, or the fine detail, mostly just glance at the section with a picture of the next route instruction and the distance to it. 6miles=no worries, 0.25 miles, looking for the turn.

Sat nav on a phone is never as good as a proper dedicated sat nav, particularly if it decides to crash.

Sat nav in a tank bag doesn't work well, you'll be trying to look at the screen whilst looking for a turning, and not looking at the road. It should be in line of sight.

Go for a handlebar mount and a cheap car sat nav, so its in line of sight. That way you can transfer it from bike to bike. You'll use it rarely, once you've done the Peterborough run a couple of times you'll remember the route. Its also signposted all the way along the A roads, not a lot of big towns in that area.

I should imagine it's the route throu London that maybe the confusing bit, may be try a simple route with just a few turns might be longer but less chance of going wrong ie get on the north circular asap to head round London
Where in London you coming from op?
