Noon all.
I have myself a bunch of tobacco seeds from last year, they should still be good for a couple of years yet but figured i should share the joy.

I have golden vergina and some dark vergina, make a nice mix.
These plants grow like weeds and i had lots of success last year growing in the garden (6-8'ish weeks indoors first).

I did however lose it all as the house i was living in was far to damp/cold to cure much tobacco and this year i dont have any space to plant.

Growing it is pretty easy, noob green fingers could manage it with a little direction however the curing process does take some effort to get some good tobacco at the end.

From a legal standpoint you are free to grow as much as you fancy and no tax is imposed unless you plan to sell it. I will put up some links later about the curing process for anyone interested, they are very closely related to tomato plants so good feed is readily avaliable.

Anyone interested just PM me, let me know how much space you have and I'll see what i can do.

Best regards

Grew some a few years ago but I cocked up the curing, it went mouldy.
Might try again.

I suspect weed is a lot easier. Although technically illegal, the law is very lax on weed. If you have a few plants, you are likely to get a caution at worst.

A friend of mine who is a copper recently was involved with a few raids, one of which uncovered £1600 of weed, little plastic bags for distribution, and scales. CPS refused to prosecute it as intent to supply, as apparently they will only do that for amounts of £5k or more.

So a few pot plants are unlikely get you in much trouble.

Having said that I do like the idea of home grown tobacco, and would be interested to hear if anyone finds it different from the shop bought stuff that may have various chemicals added.

Keep in mind how police work out street value. it's basically:
9 bar @ £10 on the gram = £2,520, in reality it's more like £1000, so their estimates are always wildly over. Sometimes when they do you for plants they go by how much it could have produced rather than how much is actually there, this again can be badly overestimated. Previous offences also count towards their willingness to do you for it.
As a general rule i think everybody could get away with being caught with a couple of plants in their own home. Problem is that where i live the thermal imaging helicopter is up a couple of times per week. Clifton has been on TV a few times with them following the police doing raids so odds of being caught are pretty high.

I've heard they also weigh the plant...in the pot....with the soil...and combine that to make the final weight, at least certainly in America they do that, so the weight is grossly overestimated.

Surely if you positioned it right, this wouldn't be an issue. For example, if you have a standard mid terrace, and used the cupboard under the stairs to grow in, your grow room is surrounded by other rooms in every direction. With the heat generated by a few lamps, none of those rooms are going to get hotter than just having a standard household heater in there.

Assumming you're growing for personal use, I'd have thought such a cupboard would be plenty of space.

Some pictures:

How it all started, trays and some compost (as tobacco is closely related to the tomato plant there is a lot of ideal compost/feeder out there Smile:

The little fellas just starting off, ones with little sticks are dark virgina, the rest golden:
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/2_702.jpg

The plants a little way through, they got a lot bigger but i started cutting them back a little and playing with different parts of the house to try cure them... sadly nowhere in that house was warm once the winter came round...

Just cleaning off the leaves ready for hanging:

Hung up in my friends room as he had the *warmest* room going somewhat:

Will get some pictures up when i find the ones of them a little later in the season to give an idea as to how big they grow.

Best regards

Cupboards DO work, but the turn around time can be fairly high as you have no way to prime your next batch. Also the air must be recycled quite a bit to stop the plants getting too hot or suffocating. That air has to be vented somewhere which is usually where the police find their heat source.

Righty after a little bit of looking around I found these on ebay.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/golden-virginia-tobacco-seed-750-tobbaco-seeds-freepost-/280633818959?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN&hash=item4157143f4f#ht_3634wt_1139

I figure for £1.50 I can't go too wrong then I'll just get the dark Virginia from The Tobacco Seed Company.

My germination method is the same I have used in the past for Morning Glory butter tub with moist kitchen roll and just let sit somewhere warm for a few days. Hopefully at least 10% will be viable which will then be transferred to seed trays. I reckon after seeing pictures of your growing area I'll be able to get a few more than I though in Wink

You live in Clifton? I'm only down the road from there, literally.

Didn't know they had the thermal chopper up so much around here?

I grew some golden virginia last year. It was very mild compared to normal tobacco you buy from shops. Didn't really do much for me so I gave it all to my dad, he loves it.
