I recently bought a load of superdream spares, among which was an apparently siezed engine, that is dirty as hell, has corrosion all over it, and spiders living everywhere Laughing So i though i might aswell take it apart to see how it ticks. Though this would be alot harder as it was 'siezed'

Started by taking off the rocker cover and valve head.

My brother was helping and he pulled off one of the valve springs with his hand Shocked That shouldn't happen thought me, its dropped a valve... Sure enough i was greeted by this metallic arsehole..

Uh-oh! Thinks me Laughing

Prior to this i had squirted stuff down the plug hole to unstick it, and noticed that someone had sheered off a spark plug in the hole. How the hell did he manage that! I wondered, must've used some force.. but found out why too!

Dropped valve has fused onto the bottom of the spark plug

Managed to get the barrels off easy enough, they actually look good! No scores on them, but one of the conrods is twisted Shocked

Then took the clutch side cover off, all looks pretty mint condition inside.. apart from all the tiny metal shards Rolling Eyes

Stopped there as i couldn't separate the crank halves. Hopefully.. when i work that out, more to follow Very Happy Also was happy to find its one of the early kickstart models Very Happy

Cheers, Malc.

I love the fact that when a superdream engine goes, it always does a proper job of it. None of this "turns out to be a broken ring" nonsense, Polo piston and a bent con rod Thumbs Up
Check the cams, i think they're made out of butter Wink

With splitting crank cases on old bikes there's always at least three allen bolts that are covered with crud so you can't see the head. And they're tucked away in the most unlikely positions.

That engine looks repairable! Keep an eye on eBay, new valve, new conrod and piston shouldn't cost the earth. Gasket kit should be cheap, build it all back up, clean and paint it up nicely in the process and you'll either have a nice spare, or sell it for a pretty penny.
